Would love one of these but put off by the reviews, hmmmmmm

I got one recently and am very happy with it, I think a lot of the bad reviews are from when it first came out and had a few problems which have been fixed with updates.
I'd say go for it if you can afford one.

If you have a child in nursery and get childcare vouchers through Edenred (which I do) you can also purchase Currys vouchers for 6.5% discount from the Edenred website.

I know nothing about these things, I currently have a Sony Z4 Tablet, is this better?

I would recommend you upgrade to a Psion 3.

Fantastic price, especially with 10% cash back. Hot from me.

So is it 20% in total (10% cashback from currys + 10% from quidco)?

This is a great price. The student discount from MS is normally pretty good on these, and even that is £764

So with this being ~£630 after cashback....really good. I've wanted a surface for a while after using one at work. I just wish the type covers were a more reasonable price.

Ignore the reviews and buy one. I have had one for 6 months and it is the future of the PC/Laptop/Tablet.

At that price it is a complete no brainer. Buy a 200gb micro SD for 45 quid and it can also be bitlockered and used as a extra hard drive.

Trust me, then thank me when you have had it for 24 hours!

UPDATE: Oh, and the new Windows 10 update makes this even better as Tablet mode is massively improved.

Does anyone know whether you can trade in a decent tablet instead of a laptop?

The maximum amount they offer is £200.

Having thought about this, just the fact that I need to buy a keyboard for it adds another £100 on top which puts me off. Keyboard is literally essential for this one, otherwise it kind of loses its point really and half of the functionality. Voting hot though because it's a good price for the tablet itself.

Got a second hand pro 3 just after Christmas for around 500 with the keyboard etc. Good device! Very handy. I rarely use it as a tablet tbh

Only thing that has gone wrong is the power brick. Microsoft swapped it no questions asked.

Fanless is the better choice if using as a tablet IMO.

Got the same deal! Microsoft even swapped it out for a new one as it had a yellow line along the edge of the display. It's a nice bit of tech and many people love it, but it fell short for me on a few key areas:

Tablet style operation is simply clunky and unintuitive compared with an iOS or Android tablet. Just getting things done is not as fast or fluid to my mind. I don't want to analyse why, and maybe other people see it differently but for me the OS (and this was Windows 10) just doesn't feel like it was built to be a touchscreen OS - which is probably explained by the fact that it wasn't

Thanks for the mini review, I feared this to be the case after seeing them at work.

Full-size desktop apps rendered tiny because of poor scaling on the screen, so unfortunate, not touch friendly at all.

I really like Microsoft's new approach to be omniplatform though, Office for everything. If only Adobe would do the same, we'd really be using tablets as desktop replacements.

Use the Surface Pro 3. Can see its huge potential but can't take advantage because it's locked to Windows 7. They might as well have provided paper and a snapped pencil.

good kit but cannot bring my self to pay 700 ton for 4gigs of ram

Great deal but unless you need the cpu power of the Pro4 the Surface 3 4Gb RAM may be a better alternative. The Pro4 is heavy and I found it uncomfortable to use for prolonged periods as a tablet. The 3 however I find just as comfortable as a full size iPad. Would pick the 3 over the Pro4 or iPad for general home use, I find it so convenient having a USB port and being able to run full Windows apps. I do have the keyboard which really opens up its functionality when you need it.

Why is it locked? I have the SP3 and upgraded to 10.

Love my Surfave.

Does anyone know whether you can trade in a decent tablet instead of a laptop?

The terms and conditions repeatedly use the phrase laptop so if a device isn't marketed and sold as a laptop I can't see them taking it.

The terms also pretty much only include laptop cpu's so any Atom based devices are probably also not accepted.

And the offer is only upto £200 so if you rock up with a £50 tablet even if they actually would accept it that doesn't mean you're getting £200 off.

they're nice bits of kit, but you want to get an extended warranty and/or insurance, in case it breaks when out of warranty as they're expensive to repair.

Cheaper than retail stores and also come with Microsoft warranty

Would be hot with 8GB of RAM, the only point of buying a Surface for me is the desktop experience, with 4GB it's simply not possible. I'll abstain on voting :)
