Worth checking out the surface book at this price, it's more usable as a laptop

The SP4 definitely can be used as a laptop aswell as a tablet. Read/watch the countless reviews from tech bloggers online and YouTube.

I have the entry level specs Surface Book and it cost me £1299. The i7 model with a dGPU will push you to £1799

As much as I love the look of the Surface Book, I'm actually considering switching to a SP4.

This deal for £1279 you get an i7 processor and double the memory space plus an Xbox One S. To get an Xbox One S deal with the Surface Book you'll need to get the £1599 model that is an i5 but you get an dGPU with 256GB.

Depends what you want really.

I have the original surface pro and keyboard, it's mainly used as a media tablet. Whilst it was a nice laptop, it wasn't comfortable enough to use for me.

I recognise that gen 1 was improved substantially but still don't think the type covers are rigid enough.

I think I'd wait till the Book gets a more powerful dGPU. I don't think I could spend a grand on something that I wouldn't work on as well.

That said, I don't use laptops...

Yeah I've read the type covers have it's pros and cons.

Spring 2017 Microsoft might be announcing the Surface Book 2 and Surface Pro 5, so a good time to wait and see what they bring out. One of the main reason they're pushing out all the deals on last gen models.

Maybe go for the foldable keyboard? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Microsoft-GU5-00005-Universal-Foldable-Keyboard/dp/B010SPV1OK. Probably can find it cheaper on eBay and the only downside is that you will always have to use a flat surface to actually use both at the same time.

I'd disagree, it's more usable on your lap as a laptop, otherwise the surface pro4 is perfectly fine as a laptop on a desk or even on a fold down table on a plane/train, I use my every week whilst travelling, but for 95% of the time's it's used on a rigid desk. I regularly use mine on my lap anyway, not really found any problems, I don't know if the standard keyboard is less rigid (I have the fingerprint version), but mine seems perfectly fine, though if I'm using it on my lap, it's going to be on a train or aircraft, with a seat in front.

£1, 000 for a tablet, amazing as it is, is still excessive and Apple-y

Wrong deal OP.

Firstly, you don't want the Typecover, it's charged at full price (£110)

Amazon have it for £94, so that's £16 off, so bad to buy with the typecover

Secondly, the options (without typecover) are:

i5/256gb £971
i7/256gb £1169
i7/512gb £1619
i7/1tb £1979.

It's very clear to me that the i5 is the best option to go for. The difference in performance between i5 and i7 I would not pay more than £50 for, and even then I'd think twice. At £200? Just no.

If you want the Xbox it's £250 worth, otherwise around £200 after ebay fees and what-not.

That makes this a £770 Surface Pro 4 i5/256GB

It's come on leaps and bounds since the gen 1. The typecover is great and really rigid and in my opinion better than most laptop keyboards.

Nothing wrong with the typecover, it's really good for the SP4 and massively improved over the older SP3 typecovers. It's pretty rigid and typing on it is a joy, it also has backlit keys and the keypad is really responsive... it is just as good (and in some cases better) than 99% of laptop keyboards. Best of all it protects the screen when not in use and fits very quite snugly. If your getting a SP4 I would strongly suggest getting the typecover over any other keyboards.

Only thing I don't like is the fabric style finish, it can get a bit dusty/dirty and is quite hard to clean.

Also available in blue typecover

But like dudedude said, this bundle with typecover, isn't really a bundle with reduced price.
It's just a typecover added at FULL price to catch out anyone thinking they're getting a deal.
It's not.
It's still a saving. Just that you can get the typecover elsewhere like Amazon for cheaper.

Would John Lewis match these prices as would like their 3 year warranty?
