A few things to bear in mind for anyone on the fence...

I have the i7 model and it's mostly great but it is not a fantastic tablet.

If you are looking for a tablet experience, look elsewhere. Think of it more like a very slim laptop.

Windows 10 just isn't very good for general tablet use, normal windows 10 programs can be hit or miss. Generally, if its from the Windows app store then it will be fine, but there are very few apps available.

The battery life if more on par with an average laptop than what you might expect from a tablet. Realistically I get between 2 and 3 hours. Maybe 5 at a push if its in eco mode.

The screen is fantastic and gets retina burningly bright, the touch screen and stylus are brilliant too.

Kickstand is fantastic and very usable for lap browsing. Lap typing with the keyboard cover isn't great.

Overall, I'd say just make sure you know what you are getting. Its a windows laptop thats super sleek. You will not get the same experience that you would with an android tablet.

If you need to be able to use Windows programs, you couldn't do much better for a portable machine, but if you want to browse the web and play (mobile) games, look elsewhere.

It's often forgotten that the SP4 also has a microsd card slot tucked away under the kickstand, so you can easily expand local storage.

These are superb machines, so you can't go wrong if you can afford one. I've had mine a year (8GB/256GB) and I'm still amazed at how versatile it is.

I won't go into details now, apart from to say that 128GB might not be an issue if you keep all your files on OneDrive like I do. My local files (eg movies) are just on there temporarily. However, 8GB is more useful, especially with lots of chrome tabs open, so worth considering.

This deal doesn't include the Surface pen which may be important to some people.

Don't listen to the haters re battery.

Simply limit the CPU to 99% and it will turn off turbo boost. Thus is the main source of battery drain, and it doubled my battery life for general usage.

Are you sure? Cuz is far as I know, NO SURFACE will come without the pen.
#10
can also get with the pen for an additional ~£50 (including a red one!) no idea what they are worth alone but thought it worth mentioning

If you go to the deal then the "experts recommend" section a different deal is suggested that includes the pen for £773.99.
Also, if you expand the product information then the section describing the Surface pen says "(sold separately)", and the last line of the product information is "Please note: Surface Pen sold separately ".

Seems quite conclusive to me.

It comes with a pen. Don't let Currys fool you. Here is the Microsoft page:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/surface/devices/surface-pro-4/tech-specs

What's in the box Surface Pro 4
Surface Pen
Power Supply
Quick Start Guide
Safety and warranty documents
#14
The pens RRP at £50 with free delivery on the Microsoft Store anyway so if you're worried about the base package not including the pen, the "pen bundle" isn't a significant discount anyway.

Absolutely agree!

I have the Surface Pro 3 with i7, 8Gb RAM, 256G SSD. It's a beautiful machine, well-built, with a lovely rich screen.

BUT it doesn't give a great tablet experience.

The problem is Windows. Windows requires an accurate navigation tool to pick up the small icons and dialogue boxes - a tool such as a mouse or trackpad (to some extent, the included stylus). Our fingers are not sharp or pointed enough.

So.... for many things, swiping with the finger is adequate (browsing the excellent news sites, etc). But more detailed work, you're going to need mechanical/electronic support...

As Serj says, understand what you're getting..... and you won't be unduly disappointed.

You still using your Surface 3 from my Very post last year?

Very confusing re: the pen. It's in every Surface Pro 4 box so I wonder if Currys have unbundled it? Really strange.

I remember telling a guy next to me at the till once not to buy the pen he was about to get with a SP4. Currys staff were either convinced it didn't come with it or simply didn't know. Anyone who's ever owned one would know it was included in both the SP4 and SP3 boxes.

Someone has just told me about an offer on Amazon for the M3 version, it seems they have a SKU without a pen as well:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Microsoft-Surface-i5-6300U-Integrated-Graphics/dp/B01M6WE99Q/ref=sr_1_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1479737918&sr=1-2&keywords=surface%2Bpro%2B4&th=1

Black, M3, Type cover only, £599.

Would much rather it shipped with the keyboard and have the pen as an option.

Does anyone have any idea when the Surface Pro 5 will be released. Want to avoid purchasing now if there will be a price drop once the new one is out.
#25
so what your all saying is... there could be a pen (if your lucky) but there most likely not going to be a pen in the box?
hmm...
its like 8bit vs 8+2bit vs 10bit panels :p

Good luck to whoever buying these... I'll wait until it hits around £500 mark with the pen lol and of course with the type cover aka keyboard as well.

here's a link to the black pen to go with your black type cover (in case you didn't get the pen in the box lol) :p

Yeah clearly states no pen included with that one. Perhaps Microsoft have released some low cost bundles for Black Friday.

The pen is NOT included in this deal. It is a special retail bundle which includes the type cover in the box instead of the stylus. Think it may be a currys exclusive

Amazon offer option of type cover instead of pen too (or both for more money).

Had one (256GB/8GB) for a year or so and it just seems to get better and better.

The stability and battery issues that some people were experiencing seem to have completely gone, and Windows 10 is superb on it.

Can you plug it in to an external screen? I would like to get one for work. My home PC doesn't quite cut the mustard now so I would use it more like a desktop at home but with the portability of a tablet.

Yep, it has a mini display port to connect to a monitor
