what did the E stand for and why is there no E now?

what did the E stand for and why is there no E now?

The E version of Windows 7 was the version of the OS for Europe. Basically, the full OS, minus Internet Explorer in order to comply with the European Commissions recent judgement(s). Since coming up with the idea and taking numerous pre-orders, Microsoft has made a u-turn and us Europeans will be getting the same version as the rest of the world (with IE included). The difference maker being you'll now see a "ballot" screen upon first opening IE which will present you with the most popular browser chioces (including; Firefox, Opera, Safari, Chrome, etc. 20 in all). This apparently has been enough to keep the suits in Brussels happy.

The E probably stood for Europe, but not sure.

Further reading.. Plenty more on google.

The £5 is added at the order stage and then removed when you commit to buying so it is free.

Nice i have a few friends that were gutted they missed the original batch!

On a side note from myself, presunably my preorder with Ebuyer i think it was will autcomatically update to the full version, as im guessing the version i ordered was pulled with the new agreement?
#22
I don't think any E editions were made. So you have nothing to worry about.

Yep agree with you m8 vista is useless and slow as hell!....but i've been using the release candidate of windows 7 for months now and i have to say it's alot better then vista much quicker and smoother, also your going to get more compatibility issues with xp from now as there going to be slowing down support for it till it's near enough defunct.

cheers

To your first question, I would imagine it does come with Media Center, though don't hold me to that.

The installation disc will have both the 32 and 64 bit edition, it should give you the choice which you want to install.

It truly sucks that payment is taken straight away... :(

Hello doggyboy.

Definitely comes with Media Center:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/compare-editions/home-premium.aspx

And I've previously read that the dvd will have both 32bit and 64bit versions on it (or two dvd's in the box .... can't quite remember which!)

I'm currently running the RC on my netbook (Dell Mini 9) and my simple Dell Studio Hybrid, and I'm very happy with it on both!

I must admit to some naiivity (oops) when I thought MS was doing us all a favour and its all down to trying to kill Google off before it starts.

But needs must and Vista just uses too much resource
#39
Bah, all of this after I had ordered from Misco - with £4 odd delivery. I knew I should have waited...

Ordered H&R Added:thumbsup:
