The fact its pre owned, and the warranty terms, would make me avoid this.

Xbox hard drives are 2.5 inch laptop hard drives, which naturally have a higher failure rate than their larger desktop counterparts, and its possible these could be upto 3 years old.

I agree, plus they are from the notorious dealextreme as well, and shipping would have to be paid both ways if a fault occured during the short 1 month warranty.

34.50 USD = 25.0710 GBP current rate.

Which makes this even more of a duff deal in my opinion, for a tenner more you can get a preowned one from CEX for £35, or why not just spend the extra fiver over that (£40) and go for a 60GB both with full 12 months warranty. If this drive went within the lowly 1 month warranty it would cost you a tenner to pay for shipping both ways.

You can get these directly from Microsoft cheaper !

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/hardware/memoryupdate/default.htm

Cut only if you have an Arcade console ;)

(PS I know this is the US link but I can;t get to the site from work - just select the UK site ;) )

You pay £25 to numbties on here for the 20gig I paid £20 for mine all I need it for is to save. Not interested in running my games off it. Xbox mainly for HD content from discs. I agree with the £40 and £55 quid options from Cex, thought I wouldn't buy the 20gb.

Google should provide various accounts of this, i'm sure, but for hard core stats, lets take Seagates latest 16MB cache, 500GB drives in both 2.5 and 3.5 inch form factors:

3.5 inch: http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?locale=en-US&name=barracuda-7200-12-sata-3-0-gb/s-500gb-hd-st3500410as&vgnextoid=90329eb4dfe5f110VgnVCM100000f5ee0a0aRCRD&vgnextchannel=7227b5b72fbce110VgnVCM100000f5ee0a0aRCRD&reqPage=Model

2.5 inch: http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?locale=en-US&name=st9500420as-momentus-7200.4-sata-500-gb-hd&vgnextoid=70f4bfafecadd110VgnVCM100000f5ee0a0aRCRD&vgnextchannel=819a2c74f15dd110VgnVCM100000f5ee0a0aRCRD&reqPage=Model

You'll see the annual failure rates on the 2.5 inch are higher!
