Spotted this great deal in my local store but unfortunatly it was sold out. Pre-Owned of course.

Goes well with all the cheap 48p HD-DVDs that were going around last year. Who said High-Def had to cost you three figures.

Also works great as a external DVD drive for all you netbook users.

Works great as an external DVD drive for netbook users that need to install something from disk too.
#2
I think you'd get more heat if it were titled "External USB DVD drive £4.99" =)
#3
And it's expired why?
#4
Correct me if I'm wrong but 4.99 is three figures lol

Yes this is a joke and I know what you mean ;)

Why, can you use that as an external drive too?

I imagine it would make a mess when you put the DVD in.

Hot.

if you put tea in a choc teapot - it melts

I bought one of these about a 18 months ago when they went down to £19 new.. One of the best buys I ever made. I've had HD DVD's for £2 for all that time when I couldn;t justify buying Blu-Ray's at £19.. Now Blu-Ray players are sub-£100 and the back catalogue on Blu-Ray starts at a fiver, I've upgraded, but this still comes in useful and a DVD drive for the netbook, which is invaluable. Anyone who can;' see this is a great deal is quite frankly a big barrel of monkey spunk.

Popped down to Game (Hartlepool) a few days ago, only to find it boarded up (and no "we've moved to...." sign), so I guess I'll not get my hands on one of these. Would have strongly considered it at this price, though as someone else said, blu-ray's become an affordable option now.
#14
Stone cold bargain. When I bought one at £20 I was impressed, but this is downright ridiculous. Brilliant find.
#15
sold out :cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:
#16
Is this a Nationwide deal?

Not that it matters anyway, Game Dumfries/Gretna/Carlisle Never have these sorta good deals.
#17
Going to be another wild chase for some. Always the way with game.
#18
euch, it has an additional feature I don't need despite it performing many other useful features admirably.

Great, now all I need is to buy all 4 dvds that came out for it :p

seconded.

Its not that hot if you can't get one and I never saw HD DVDs selling at 48p.
#22
Hot. So can this be used with a standard PC as a USB DVD drive to read normal CD's and DVD's or will it only work with HD-DVD's?

Yes you can and it's very easy, you just need software that can play HD-DVDs like PowerDVD 8 for example.

Like someone else said, anyone who doesn't think is a hot deal is a cockmunch of the highest order.

I've had one of these drives for a while but didn't realise it would work on my netbook. Just plugged it in and it played dvds and cds straight away without having to install any software! I tried an HD DVD out on it and it said I had to pay for an HD plugin so didn't bother. I bought my drive a while ago for £100 and i'm still very happy with it. I don't think I'll get a Blu Ray player until I see a good one available that's multiregion.

Works fine connected to a PC, but if you want to watch HD-DVD's on your PC you'll need extra software. Normal CD/DVD's work fine.

Oooops, apparently you can't use it to play games from on your 360, I hadn't tried it myself, just heard it was possible from a friend. D'oh!!

Thanks, I did have a look on Google but people said that it only played HD-DVD's and if you wanted to play a CD or a DVD you needed to use the other drive on a Xbox.

Rep added.
#33
is it dvdr or does it just plat dvds?
btw thanks.

what the hell - just got 8 emails from this thread but Im not subscribed? (user error on my part Im sure)

Nearly 500 degrees and nobody including the OP has seen any in stock..........this is a fabulous deal but if there is no stock its a non-existant deal. If someone confirms stock then I'll vote it hot.........

Also works with your 360 of course, handy if the drive breaks on yours, you'll still be able to play games through this (happened to a friend of mine!)

I don't think this is true, certainly not on mine anyway.

superb deal - and a great add on
I have my recently purchased Viera linked to this through my Xbox and have a fantastic collection of about 30 movies - for all that cost me less than £80 6 months ago,,,
I know its an outdated format but im not a telly addict like a few of the nose picking - burger munchin dossers on here ;-) so its a brilliant stop gap till i feel the need to buy the other overpriced option - so when im done I will flog it or even just bin it - also as mentioned fantastic device for my 2 netbooks...

HOT

PS: In Gamestation in Leamington you can get them for £11 with 6 month warranty - saw them today.

This is exactly what has happened to me and I was just going to ask this. Can you plug in any external USB DVD drive or does it need some special MS firmware on it?

Edit: Never mind, I have seen from later posts this is not true.
