I don't have a dual core and only have a GeForce 8400GS and my drive works like a charm. It's only ever stuttered once and that was a software issue, maybe I'm just lucky!

Also, HAHA YOU CAN'T BUY ANY NEW FILMS ON THIS FORMAT LOL BETAMAX!!!11!

Gamestations was a better deal which I bought, but all stock gone, but cant complain for the price of a couple of Blu Rays!

While HD-DVD might be dead, there are 2 reasons I see this as a pretty good deal

1: You get the remote with it, which is £17.99 itself at play.com
2: Meaning you have an external DVD drive for less than a tenner, which even if you dont use it for HD-DVD, you can use it for DVD on something like an EEE, or you can prevent wear on your 360 by playing DVD's in this drive instead of the internal one.

Plus, of course, you can play HD-DVD's on it, which is the bonus as opposed to the main feature for me.......

You can also use the drives as an external DVD on a Dell Mini 9's for installing WindowsXP etc.
#14
good idea regarding the EEE. I'm gonna pick one of those up at the end of jan as a replacement for my PDA.

Plays fine on my single core Opteron with X1800XL gfx card. Hardly cutting edge stuff.

I got Death Proof which was only just released on hd-dvd.

good points, came to the same conclusion myself the last time the deal was posted

drive works well with my acer aspire one - useful tip for anyone thinking of buying the cheaper linux version and then installing windows xp on it too

the remote is pretty handy for the orig dvd player on the xbox360 too
#23
Is there a linux driver for it?

might be able to get it running on the ps3 then via yellow dog or ubuntu?
#24
I didn't realise it played normal DVD's. Have tried a game disk before but that wouldn't run.

No, this is a HD-DVD player - the drive in the Xbox360 only reads DVD

You can pick up a 100 decent hd dvd titles for around £2. You get the media remote which is brilliant (Backlit as well) retails at around £20 on its own. Hd dvd looks every bit as good as br. Except br movies start at a tenner and most are £15 - £17.

So if you want a media remote its £7 for the player and you get to watch loads of great films for £2 each in hd, less than renting them or ppv. You only need to buy half a dozen films you wantand it pays for itself vs br. So how is that not a good deal ?

Also many new lappys and notebooks dont have dvd rom drives built in so its a useful addon dvd drive. I thought people were meant to stop spamming threads with no relevant comments btw

Media remote also works with windows btw as does the hd dvd drive (for hd movie playback as well as dvd drive) so this is good for pc users also.

does anyone know if you get as good pic if using a HD VGA cable as HDMI?

Why would anybody be interested in a failed format by Sony that cannot play any current media available?,(you and the poster above you make no sense).

This is a Toshiba format that can not only play HD_DVD films which are still available but can also play and upscale the king of all media DVD..

You take life to seriously, What a PLONKER your are!

Bought the remote on it's own on sunday for £14.99, didn't see this deal. To be fair i've got an external writer, and this is just another thing to clutter up/go in the landfill in a couple of years, but guess it's a good deal if you want an external dvd rom?
#33
Cool price

yes but this thread is 2 months old, why bump it to post that??

Plus the fact the ones you linked to are play trade
