I'd be reluctant to buy because this sounds like one of the old models which is very succeptible to RROD

Yup, go for the newer jasper chip set version
#2
Heat added.

Still a good price whether it's the old version or not. It's not like your not covered for the three years RRoD.

(yes I know it shouldn't happen and it's a hassle with sending things etc)

Actually these will be later model Falcons or Jaspers. And better yet, these will be vulnerable to the JTAG exploit!

Falcons still have a massive failure rate, I had two go on me within the first year.

Jasper are alot less of a problem it seems.

Nonetheless, I've got a PS3 now but still, good price.

The later model Falcons are pretty stable tbh and chances are these might be Jaspers anyway. Besides £120 for an exploitable console you can load XBReboot onto is a steal!.

Yeah not sure what the newer Falcons are like..

I gave up with the Xboxs to be honest, too frustrating with the RRoD although you can do alot with them

With all due respect, you are wrong :)

ALL QOS 60GB packs are Falcons.

All Falcons are the same.

Exploitable Jaspers are not hard to find at the moment so why bother with a Falcon.

All Falcons are the same.
They aren't. Later models such as the ones I just bought have only 4 RAM chips (all on top of the motherboard) and have the improved heatsinks.

yep you are right, newer falcons are almost the same as jaspers in terms of cooling, also I have 2 xbox consoles, one a late falcon elite and another is a release console and never had any issues, imo it's also down to how you use it and if it has ventilation.

Also ps3 has YLoD....

basically on the back if it says 12,2V its a jasper and you got a new model, 14,4v is a falcon, any later and you got release models basically, check it on the web, these values are probably slightly off since they are from the top of my head atm
#13
Falcon or Jasper couldnt really give a ****, its cheap for an xbox, voted hot.
#14
i need to buy a new exploitable one, my rrod xenon is still holding up under mario for now but its only a matter of time :(

If a wii emu and xbmc get released i think the value of these will shoot up

is a jasper better than a falcon then. ie if i bought a falcon should i send it back and re-order a jasper. whats the difference ?thanks
#16
very good price, i think. you get a 60GB hard drive too!
#17
Deffo fancy one of these but it has to be a Jasper. Runs cooler, uses less power and is almost RROD proof.

I already have a XBR Xenon console, loving it to bits but I know it could die anytime and then I would be up s**t creek.
#18
Above made in chine its says 12v, never had any problems with my elite.
#19
I bought one of these from the Wednesbury store last week and I can confirm that it's the falcon chipset that runs at 14.2V.

Although it also has a HDMI port aswell which is awesome as it only shows the elite to have these on the box!

Manufactured 09 2008 aswell!
#20
hmm, might pick one up if i can get one!

Exploitable 360's are rare round our way.

If you paid the money, get a jasper imo, it is a newer version after all, the difference resides mostly on the size of the cpu and better cooling. Bottom line, falcon is good, but jasper is better, so if I would be buying a new one, I would definetly get a jasper.

thanks for that. Im still not sure about exploitable

Certainly there are different configurations of RAM chips on Falcons but this is dependent on cost, supply, production line and not the age of the console. This has a negligible impact on reliability so it is irrelevant in the context we are discussing.

Can you show me a picture of the two different Falcon heatsinks? Which of the 3 standard heatsinks has been improved during the Falcon's lifecycle?
#24
Considering I picked an arcade up with three games for 119 5 days ago, I vote this hot cause of the hard drive.
#25
Anyone actually got a correct link to this info?

Guess it's only instore too?

Why are you trying to draw me into a pointless argument?. The RAM on the underside of the motherboard was found to be causing a large amount of heat to build up and become trapped. This I'm sure didn't help the RROD situation. Whether Microsoft did this for cost cutting measures or not doesn't change the fact that having all RAM on the top of the motherboard where there's proper ventilation is more desirable. I definitely wouldn't say it has a negligible impact on reliability. As for the heatsinks, the Falcons have the improved versions with an extra heatpipe on the GPU. I never said there were 2 different types of Falcon heatsink :?.

You are trying to say the Jasper is massively more reliable yet it shares the same basic design flaws as all other versions of 360. The only real difference between Falcon and Jasper is the GPU being 65nm. The Jasper actually has less efficient cooling (although it does produce less heat) as Microsoft have reverted back to the old Xenon style GPU heatsinks in a bid to save a few pennies.

You never said where we can easily find exploitable Jaspers?. I'd genuinely like to know since they are becoming VERY rare and highly desirable in light of recent events.

Back to the deal though, can anyone really argue that a 60gb 360 for £120 (and a game, and XBR exploitable) isn't a bargain?.

now nearly 2 years! since last it went back -

Also very good machine as an Media Center Extender

I recently bought an Elite that was on offer and yep i'm paranoid have a desk fan pointed at it
and if the room temp goes above 25 degree on goes the fan! lol

Has anyone spotted these in stock in the Midlands?
#29
The branch in question have put the price up to £150. Ouch! Almost bought one but wondered if I should have gone for a Jasper model. Doh!!!!

And back to £129.99 instore! The people there must be sick and tired of putting price stickers upon price stickers. I think the Amazon/Argos Elite with the wireless entertainment pack might be a better deal.
