I've been dying for a MIFI for some time now. Finally bit the bullet and bought the previous deal posted onto here (39.99 device, 15/month for 5gb). I RECEIVED THE DEVICE TODAY, and thought I'd give my shot at customer services to reduce this price.

I just spoke to retentions (even though I've been a customer for 20 minutes) who gave me the same 5GB plan at 50% off if I signed a 6 month contract, after which it turns into a one-month rolling contract at 7.50/month!!

Basically, 1/2 off the deal. Plus, you get quidco (mine's tracked already) bringing down the up-front fee.

Can't find anything better than this - 5gb of 3G for 7.50!!

Edit: speedtest.net speed test from central London yields 6.2MBIT.

So this a retentions only deal that you managed to get and anyone else walking into the store would not be able to get?

Anyone can get this on the phone. Just buy the device and call them up. I received the device today and called up immediately and got this offer.

I have this device that '3' gave me to replace the old usb dongle that I had. Great device, can connect 4 simultanous internet devices to it. I use it to connect to the internet from my desktop pc when at home, on my laptop when I am out and with my phone all the time. My son connects his ipod through it too.

I'm not saying whether this particular post should be a deal on here or not, like loopie seems to suggest (unless I am reading into it wrong, and if so, sorry loopie, no offence whatsoever). I too have the half price broadband but my contract with '3'. doesn't have an expiry date.

Well done for getting the deal, what happens if people sign up and call for the deal and don't get offered anything. Strange to get a retentions deal on a new sign up, maybe 3 work in strange ways. Hot if you can get it but they may also hold you into your £15 deal.

I can also confirm the Mifi device is excellent, picked up one for £17ish a couple of months back on a previous deal, works a treat. Was thinking about ditching the home broadband at the time and just using the Mifi, but got offered a deal from Virgin to stay so the Mifi is sitting in it's box waiting.

14 day return policy. Call before opening the device, you can get a full refund if you don't get the offer.

Does anyone know if it's possible to get this deal but using a phone to tether? Would you get the same speed?

How did you manage to get 3 to change your dongle for one of these?.

I had a half price minimum 18 months contract (with no expiry date) that was coming up to the 18 months so I rang them and told them that I wanted to cancel the contract. That's when they offered me the device for free; to which I agreed.

I was on the same deal. So when you rang up do you go into a new contract.

Did they ask why you are leaving and did you give them a deal that you are moving to.

I kept the same contract, they just sent me the device through the post and I put the sim card from my usb dongle into and that was it.

I told them that I didn't need the contract anymore. They said that the half price deal that I had was really good and that I might never get that offer again if I cancelled the contract. That's when they offered me the free MoFi to persuade me not to cancel the contract so I accepted it.

ouch, that's cold :)

So I guess people out there are finding 5GB mobile broadband for <7.50/month then...

Just phoned them to cancel and they offered me the free mifi. Only trouble is they wouldnt budge on starting a new 18 month contract. So while one would be good, I might just continue to use my current 3g wireless router and not be tied.

Can anyone tell me what wifi coverage is like on the mifi. Is it similar to a normal wireless router or is it limited.

The E585 is an excellent device, works really well if you have a good three signal. The wifi signal is also boosted when connected to the mains, but even on battery haven't found it to be a problem. The nice thing with this device is you can place it upstairs near the windows where you get better reception, then it re- transmits the signal as a wifi signal around the house (both throughput and coverage are amazing for a device this size, performs aswell as a normal ADSL Router.

I can stream iplayer with mine (but this is unusual), as I've a great underused three signal. My biggest gripe with three is they no longer roam on Orange on 2G Edge when your signal isn't very good on 3 itself, so in effect there is no 2G backup. So trying to use it elsewhere has proved disappointing.

Mostly accurate, except that I unlocked mine, free, in about 5 minutes. Confirmed running with vodaphone without an issue. Google search yields multiple forums outlining the free method which I confirm works.

Ah you removed the unlock bit from your post :)

A wonderful example of manipulative marketing where the buyer is presented with an interesting-sounding deal potentially enhanced via a notable cashback opportunity. Or maybe not.
3 have huge flexibility to play with on their mifi / monthly data deals, and in the OP's case he secured a "half price" deal in return for a 6month commitment.
But why would anybody looking for a real deal want to settle for the original 5gb/£15/month/30day-rolling-contract when you can have double that data for the same price / same rolling contract terms ?

Anybody buying the mifi through the 5gb/£15/month/30day-rolling-contract "deal" should contact 3 customer services as soon as they receive the mifi device & immediately cancel the contract. When asked why they wish to cancel the contract, tell 3 that they are taking the pi55 with the paltry 5gb when they offer 10gb on the same terms & price, either direct

or via resellers:
http://www.expansys.com/3-micro-sim-card-with-10gb-of-data-monthly-203202/
Highly likely the CS rep will immediately up the 5gb to 10gb, or offer the 5gb at half price as per OP (subject to OP's 6month commitment).
I'd be very surprised if any suggestion of a 6month commitment obligation couldn't be laughed out of the deal.

And yes: if you do go for the separate 10gb deal (an attempt at another potential cashback opportunity?), you may need a micro-SIM adaptor - about £1 delivered from a well-known auction site.

Think the potential £23-ish cashback for the 5gb&mifi is the deal clincher?
TCB menbers cite multiple examples of 3's cashback "disappearing".
Cashback tracks and shows as pending, but then fades away:
http://www.topcashback.co.uk/retailersextras3_Mobile.htm
At least TCB openly state that cashback is not available on mifi purchases - other cb sites are less informative about specific mifi non-cashback opportunities. Of course, there will always be the exception to the norm...

Other than 3's dubious marketing methods above, the hardware and service is great :)

Order online http://threestore.three.co.uk/dealsummary.aspx?offercode=1MB5GD012
Original proce £39.99 for the mifi device delivered, plus £15 / month for 5gb on 30 day rolling contract.
OP comitted to 6month contract to secure £7.50 / month cost, reverting to £7.50 / month on rolling 30 day contract after the initial 6months.
No 18 month contract related to this thread's deal, although 3 do offer 18m contracts should you bizarrely wish to commit to such.
