Great toy!!!!!
banned#3
Probably cheaper to build your own (based around a PC, a set of MAME "roms" and an old arcade machine), but this sure as hell saves the trouble.
Voted hot (yes, it's expensive, and little more than a toy........but so are a lot of other things :)).
Anyway, don't want it - It doesn't have "Slapfight" installed.
#4
£700 for something thats going to sit in the corner of the room and gather dust?
#5
Still a lot of money for a retro toy that any pc can replicate using mame?

Its a nice bit of furniture though and one for those who have everything and are stuck for what to buy. Personally i would spend the £700 elsewhere on something of more use, but each to there own.

I wont be voting on this for the above reasons :whistling:

I've been wanting to build one of these things for years, the lack of space at home and me being lazy has so far hindered the project.

A friend has an old cabinet hanging around, but we never quite got round to doing the conversion.
Now 22" TFT monitors have shot down in price, we may well have another go.

Wouldn't the 10% be knocked off the 799 price and not the 999 price though?

I've tried quite a few of the retro games via emulators. Ok for about five minutes, but they are so dated I just couldn't play them. (I was alive the first time they came out)

Its a good saving, but just not worth the money imo
#12
Great idea, but poor selection of games IMHO. Streetfighter 1 for example!!! The classics are missing.

On the other side of things, have you seen Ben Heck's work? He turns old consoles into handhelds.

Voted hot for the price saving even though it's still just under £700, good gadget for a games room

Also go through Quidco for 5% cashback also

Exactly what I was thinking, if there was a selection of some of the best arcade games it would be worth it but I don't think this is.

A friend did have a converted arcade cabinet, all looked original but behind it was a PC which ran MAME and a vast number of roms which was fantastic reliving the days when I had to shove 10p's into the machine. Track and Field for some reason seem to be the most popular by a long shot.

Cold - You could build one from a old xbox and tv lying around and it would be better.

My God that's a guy with too much time on his hands :)

I would get just to know how Tom Hanks felt like in Big.

lol, I bet inside the cabinet there's just a small 120 in one £12.99 china thingy linked up to the cabinet controls - won't be the first time - get one of ebay like me - 20" touch screen - top draw!

Why are people voting this hot?

A massive rip off discounted to a very big rip off does not make a good deal.
#22
By penrhos (UK) - See all my reviews
I aquired one of these from ebay - Fortunately a lot cheaper than this and suprise-suprise it didnt work properly. So I rang up the supplier who wanted to charge £180 to replace the game board. So I took it to pieces to see if I could do it myself. Inside there was a small black sealed box. I broke it open and all it contains is a PSU and one of those 150-in-1 handheld game units you can buy for £15. The screen is a 14" colour TV/Monitor. Not exactly worth the money then.

galaxy invader (think it was called)
atari st
amiga

I have and old Athlon pc sitting about and a 21" tv.
I see a project coming on, but at the rate I complete these kind of things I will be playing track and field while watching the 2012 Olympics!

Lol you bet correctly! These are garbage!! 700 quid for a rubbish ten quid games thing and a cheap monitor in a cabinet????? get real!!!

if you really want an arcade experience in the home then buy this below,29 inch monitor, inputs available for pc and all maner of consoles too, 50 quid more, stick a 20 quid xbox in full of mame roms and you have got the real deal! http://www.arcadecabinets.co.uk/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=5&category_id=1&manufacturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=26

ADD IN A COIN SLOT and voila, make some £££ from your own living room !!!!

As an arcade collector, I would advice you stay away from these. Go on Ebay and search for the real thing, they would often cost ten times more new, but can now be found for less than half of these, with far better hardware in them and bigger screens. Most people who build their own machines realize too late that they have spent more than they would on proper ones and wasted way too much time on something that looks like it was designed by Mr Magoo.

Real collectors collect induvidual game boards, not emulators like these. These can be very costly, but there are cheaper alternatives that are still better than these.

I didn't vote, as I still think that those who are into the idea should read this.

That's exactly the route i'd take as the XB1 can run just about any emulator the PC can and it's all in a small neat package. Something I plan to experiment with in the near future, time + money permitting.

That thing is sweet

Marks and Spencer are certainly diversifying.
#31
Complete waste of money.

The entire MAME Arcade collection can be got off a torrent site or similar for free. You are basically paying £700 for a cabinet which could be picked up for £50 from one of these arcade firms and fitted with a PC, add the MAME front end and you could make the whole thing yourself for half of what this costs even including buying your own PC. It would also have thousands of games.

This is not a hot deal in any way, shape or form. Its an expensive gimmick.
#32
Looks a bit tacky if you ask me, the front panel etc.
#33
Ok I've just got up and I think I may still be dreaming has this really gone above 100?

You guys are sick!
#34
just come back from pontins no thanks
#35
I know what sort of replies I'm going to get, but I have to be the one to say that while MAME itself is fine, the legal status of owning game ROM's has been the subject of debate for many years. Personally I have seen a few sites shut down by the powers that be for distributing them.

At least this device is a legal option. The deal is hot (its a huge discount, and that constitutes a good deal to me), but the quality of the product itself is way too low for the money. That collection of games is just plain awful!
#36
Not a bad price for a legit proffesional arcade cabinet. i've built my own though, cost me about the same price when you include the price of the pc.

I must say they are great to have for parties :)
banned#37
Cold from me I'm afraid
Whilst building your own may cost about the same including decent controllers and pc, this doesn't. The hardware is worth about £15.
The games selection is pretty bad, and when I looked into these before people were saying the build quality of the cab was pretty bad too.
#38
My problem with this is its not original and thats the whole point.

I would rather have a full size genuine original cabinet of something like say Sega rally (would LOVE the 2 or 3 player linkup!), or gauntlet 4 player.

Can I get one of these off eBay? I am drooling now!
#39
Deal price includes single-use voucher code - these are not allowed to be used to bring down the price of a deal. :)

Looking at that list of games it looks like the 'NES emulator in a controller' that I bought a few years ago so these are not even the original arcade games but home versions of arcade games.

This is a complete waste of money.
