It's apparent Argos dont really know much about the products they sell , by not giving the full description details . I'm after a new hub like this but need a one that plugs into the mains . The description says powered but no where does it mention if there is a mains adapter supplied . It' s a good price too .
Oh well ........

i reckon it means mains powered, if it isnt just return it back to argos alternatively you can get a 4 port ac powered hub here £3.49 http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_5&products_id=99392

If it is powered, then there must be an adaptor. I wonder if it is powerful enough to charge 2nd gen Ipod touch or PS3 controller? My one isn't :x

Do you know if this will function as a USB2 hub or a USB1 on Mac OSX 10.6?
Thanx

My understanding is that the maximum "power" that is available from a single USB port is related to a maximum current of 500mA and this 500mA provides 2.5 watts. Therefore, if a USB hub has 4 ports and a power supply rated at less than 2 Amps then it is just not going to hack it at full power.

Similarly, a 7 port hub needs a power supply of at least 3.5 Amps or it is not able to run all 7 ports at full "power".

Arguably, no one would want to run all 4 or all 7 ports at full power but, in this day and age, it seems to be more of a requirement now that almost everything is USB powered/charged.

Argos reviews say that there is NO mains adapter with it.

stick to a good brand like Belkin, these cheapo makes often don't have any over - current protection and can damage the PC

stick to a good brand like Belkin................................

I did . I bought a belkin many years ago from Makro , £39.99 plus VAT it was . Never got round to using it and years later I tried it and the power LED inside flashed once and would not power any of the ports .It came supplied with a big bulky mains power adapter that stills works but the hub is usless .Of course , too late to take back under warranty , So , I will try a cheapy .

There is definitely a mains adapter supplied with this. I checked the box I got this morning.

"Supports full, high and low speed transfers." full speed transfer is referring to usb2.
