Ive got one looks identical to that from the poundshop, its ideal for getting a steady shot when using macro especially for ebay items!

Hehe looks like lots of people have only just discovered DX this weekend! Got one on my desk now, nice and stable and handy for setting it up to take a series of timed shots when ebaying stuff. Lots of cheap items.

The quality is usually suprisingly good (my £9 heli and £4 fm transmitter for example easily compares to more expensive alternatives). The delivery obviously isnt super quick, but its fast considering its coming from HK.

Everytime i have bought from DealExtreme; which is a hefty load. I have never waited that long..about a week and i have it arrived to my front-door step. Also you may not think 20p difference is much but 5 x 20p can be £1, save it and you can make £10 and so on..i think 20p off with free delivery in the comfort of my own home is fine by me.

The item is certainly NOT from America. It's from HongKong. Do you drive a car? Do you use a plane to get to another country? Do you use electricity? Do you buy things? You idiot if you care so much stop all that ****, all which has high emission of carbon, which is threatning our "o-zone layer" man stfu...walk to another country, walk 100 miles, don't use a car or a plane. Use a candle for your living room. You giving "Cold" to someone if you do the same **** yourself.

I'm pretty sure it's not me who is the idiot. The item is from Hong Kong, not America. Secondly, he voted the deal cold because it needs to be delivered, it's not as if it's going to be the only item on the plane, therefore the 'carbon footprint' is negligible.

P.S. You are = You're.
#13
I ordered one of these 2 months ago and one of the legs broke the first time I used it, the legs are held with cheap glue, dealextreme does good stuff but not this item, not worth it.
#14
Got one of these a couple of months ago, same price. Bargain. Sturdy, delivery was less than a week, supports even my older heavy cameras.

As for the carbon footprint, it's not like they send a whole plane out for each of these orders. The planes would be flying anyway...
banned 1 Like #15
The carbon foot print arguement that 'oh the plane's gonna fly anyway' is flawed.

I think it is reasonable to assume the poster that first mentioned carbon foot print was trying to say that to buy an item for £1.00 that can be bought in the UK for £1.25 is not carbon footprint friendly. That doesn't make him/her an idiot.

Sadly the item costing £1.25 in UK most probably comes from the same manufacturer.

It really is difficult this carbon footprint business. I do try to buy apples & pears from UK rather than Bolivia, but I once heard that it is more damaging to the enviroemnt to buy tomatos from UK than Spain because the heating of the greenhouse outweighs the transportation element from Spain.

Anyway just to call someone an idiot is not on. If we continue just to do nothing about the planet, then we are all idiots
#16
Well put Lyrrad,
We do have to be concerned about our planet Earth and as you correctly state the one in the poundshop I'm sure would not have be made in the UK and probably left exactly the same carbon footprint behind.

If you want to save energy, don't call them an idiot, call them a t**t.

I agree that most items we buy from UK highstreet retailers are probably made in China anyway and would cause similar environmental damage.

If we digress from just bargain to being environmentally friendly, the next steps will be women's rights and the quality of the workers' pension schemes - we should rename the site FairUKDeals or FUKD :-D

FUKD, which could be interpretted as F*CK*D - now that made me laugh!

i hope you environmentally concerned people are using a solar powered computer to post here....

When i mentioned the carbon footprint I was referring to how such a cheap piece of tat does not justify flying it halfway around the planet to my front door because i think its a bargain. There is more to a 'Hot Deal' than purely how much beloved money you have to part with.

In a One pound shop sure there from china too but i bet they all come in a big container which in the circumstance is more efficient and carbon friendly than shipping each item individually right to your front door.

Calling me an idiot for simply stating i do not think it's a good deal due to the fact a 78p item is shipped half way around the planet and to my door cause its "Cheap" shows ignorance and narrow mindedness.
Don't get me wrong i think importing things is good for economy , fair trade and keeping prices competitive but is this really worth a 10, 000 + mile journey?
#28
saw the item, thought it looked great! Saw the idiots moaning about carbon footprint - and that prompted me to buy it!! Very handy for ebay shots - and add a little to my carbon footprint too - everyones a winner!
#29
@bmouthboyo: obviously it's a big shame DX is based in Hong Kong (which seems to make everything CHEAP CHEAP), but also means it takes 2 weeks to arrive, but bear in mind that HUKD is sitting on some high-wattage computer somewhere, in a highly air conditioned, high electricity consumption datacentre, with hundreds of other computers supplying the web- if you're seriously worried about your carbon footprint, stop contributing to HUKD :p
#30
I'm not sure if you guys are really that narrow minded and ignorant or you actually believe ur own ****. I did not protest to be some kind of vegetarian green peace eco-warrior. I simply used my common sense and principles and thought that this deal is not justifiably 'HOT' as it has to be shipped halfway around the planet.

Some people who actually care about these things may not have thought about this additional 'cost' of the item but obviously there are many more people like you who are after only after the cheapest penny saving deal YOU can get. I feel sorry for you as i would hate to be without at least some kind of principles and concerns when it comes to the planet. Perhaps you have not seen enough of the world yet to appreciate it enough.

So on the cheap skate front you my friend are indeed are more savvy than i, i bet you get your loved ones flowers from the petrol station too, i hear there a real bargain.

Priciples and concerns? Nah a bargains a bargain mate I dont give a stuff! Global warming has been going on for thousands/millions of years its evolution of the world! What do you think happened to the ice age? That someone left the fridge door open? Get a grip, parcels are shipped on aircraft hwere there is free space left in the hold not just as and when they get an order, in other words on flights that would be happening anyway?

How can you expect us to see enough of the world when tree huggers tell us that travelling the world is bad for the enviroment? Come to think of it if you yourself have seen enough of the world then you must have left a great big dirty carbon footprint behind doing so! Double standards going on there!:x

I think I'm banging my head against a brick wall with people like you lol

As i said before I'm not saying Zero carbon footprint, I'm saying use common sense. Shipping items like this piece of tat over 10,000 miles because your after a bargain is not a 'Good Deal'. If you disagree with that then i genuinely feel sorry for you, and wish you luck saving them pennies you seem to need so badly :)

You should be thinking about the future for your Children,Grandchildren etc.To say you don`t give a stuff is a pretty stupid thing to say too.

Wow, this item is the hottest I have seen from DE for a while, I think that shows where the majority of HUD members stand. I always wait and buy at least 5 'tat' items from DE per order, personal preference. It saves me jumping in the car and driving to the shops (infrequent public transport) to get my gadgets! Incidentally, where do you think most of the bargain items in the shops are from?
Shame some people here are being condescending and others have resulted to insults (or both), usually means they have lost the argument...,

So i'm stupid, oh good I can join the stupid club! I'm just being honest!
It beats being gullible.

I dont give a stuff because global warming in my opinion is another drum for politicians to beat, if you look at the history of the world its been growing steadily warmer since the ice age ended! FACT!! It simply diverts the worlds attention from what the super powers are up to behind bclosed doors!

Ok so the one I get from the poundshop has an allegedly lower carbon footprint? Lets think about this? I have to travel six miles to get there so a round 12 mile trip whats the footprint of that? I'm sure it offsets the fact of an envelope taking a little extra space in a aircraft/shipping container. I'm sure as hell not going to walk - I have a minor disability that would prevent me anyhows. I swear people believe they get a private jet for their orders!

Got mine today - great bit of kit!
