  Do you mean getting the bus from newcastle (or even further Scotland!) to Amsterdam? If so: that'll be a day of your life you'll never get back. Who'd want to sit on a cramped bus when for a little bit more you can take the ferry!

  Took the car accross last Easter which was a fair bit more, decent way to do it but I'd probably save the time and hours of sea-sickness and drive to Dover next time, only paid about £20 from Dunkirk to Dover and then drove up the rest to the toon.

  The boat on the way over, especially if you hit the weekend one, is like a being trapped in the worst club imaginable, with the dregs of society, and paying top dollar for the privilege.

  My brother and his wife have gone to Amsterdam a couple of times and say a cheap flight is much better than the ferry, they also say they won't go again because it's such an expensive place to visit, think it cost them more in spending money for 4 days in Amsterdam than it cost for 2 weeks in Turkey!
  
  Just be aware and budget for it!

  I worked in Holland for a couple of years and you are correct it's a bloody expensive place these days - I guess that's the bonus of having the convenience of a single currency - jacked up prices all round.
