Mini Digital Camera with Colour Screen £14.95

Found this while looking for a cheap first digital camera for the kids.

Not sure that it is entirely suitable for that purpose as it is very small, but for under £15 delivered thought it was a good deal. Ad says that previously it was nearly £100 which doesn't sound quite right and it says that the deal expires on the 20th.

Can't find any reviews on it but what attracted me was the colour screen. It is a low resolution camera so wouldn't expect the images to be very good and it doesn't have a flash.

This tiny and unique mini camera is small enough to take with you everywhere
With the 300,000 CMOS sensor you can take excellent images and view them on the exclusive 1.1 inch colour screen first
Accessories include CR2 battery, CD driver and USB cable

Its the tiny size of 6cm x 4cm and comes with a keyring attachment

Yes this does seem like a good price for a first camera, and it is nice and diddy, but i think you really will get what you pay for with this - cheap=cheap. We did have to spend about twice this price for a first camera for our son, but it has a 3m pixels,4 x digital zoom,1.5in LCD colour screen,SD memory card compatible up to 512MB capacity,2MB internal memory and Movie capture (no sound)
Thanks for this Beavis :)

Looks okay for the price.
I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole... Sorry... A much better deal would be to buy a camera phone with a 1MP camera...

You were right Siliconbits!
I bought one - it arrived this morning - what a pile of cr*p!
It's just one of them cheapo keyring-type webcam efforts - though it does have an lcd display on the back (still garbage though).
I have not had chance to test it properly - nor shall I, for reasons explained in my returns email request which was as follows............................

Please forward a returns number and instruction as I wish to return the following product:
A61FW Mini Digital Camera

order number NA139221 (19/02/2007).

I am very disappointed with this item - I feel I am partly to blame for my disappointment as it will teach me in the future to only buy a product from yourselves if the item comes with some kind of description - I hope that your lack of description on this item was not to sucker buyers into buying this very poor quality camera.
I had bought this camera as a starter camera for my young son - I would have been embarrassed to give him it!

On a side issue, having installed to battery into the camera, I was immediately greeted with a low battery warning!!! As these batteries are not the common type, I daren't imagine how much they are to replace - not that I should need to do after taking just one photo!

This has been my first purchase from MAPLIN, not a great start! - I shall be thinking twice before I buy again. My usual online store for electrical goods is EBUYER whom have an excellent customer service. They are happy to arrange pickup of returns at no further cost to the customer - As this is my first dealings with MAPLIN, I am curious as to how your customer service compares.

For your information, my attention was brought to yourselves and the camera deal from the online consumer site HOTUKDEALS. I shall be posting this returns request on HOTUKDEALS and keeping the other forum members updated on how all this pans out.

Many thanks for your speedy resolution on this matter,

----- ----.
Anybody had any joy with returns from MAPLIN?

I think I'm more cheesed off because my lad is desperate for a digital camara but i don't want to buy him an expensive on because he's only a clumsy-7-year-old! Any suggestions on a cheap digital camera anyone (preferably not from MAPLIN though!:? )
