Don't know much about that I'm planning on hard wiring it in any event ive got enough devices connected to our wifi as it is (_;)

How easy is to get this to play files stored on a NAS or Windows PC?

What a coincidence. I've ordered one just like this off Amazon tonight. It was £40 though but it'll be delivered tomorrow.

The Bluetooth affects it on this model, if using WiFi, turn the Bluetooth off and it works great.

Just purchased one.

Great boxes.

If you prefer 16GB, buy from here (£32)

From what I remember, the 8GB version is the one with the dreadful wi-fi, the newer 16GB edition was much better.

Wonder if they've sorted the Wi-Fi out on these, the Mini M8S and Mini M8S II (8GB) both had problems.
Review of the 16GB version, this reviewer says it's a Beelink box (?) About Wi-Fi (at 10:33) - seems to be better - https://youtu.be/ZXx10hempU0?t=631

Very, very easy. I have a couple of similarly spec'd devices that stream from my Synology NAS to VLC and Kodi out of the box. UPNP media serving makes it a breeze. I tend to use VLC on mine due to the simplicity.

This is not cheap enough to take the risk of dealing with gearbest , and risking the chance of customs charges.
As already stated you can get boxes with identical specs from UK sellers.
Watch out for the Amazon model posted by SilveBlack - this is also delivered from China - take note of the delivery date under the price . Look for one on Amazon that is fulfilled by Amazon - so sent quick from the UK.

There are a couple on Amazon at £32.99 delivered ( fulfilled by Amazon - so you will get it before the end of the week )
This looks the best of the two at £32.99
#15
Yep that one does look like delivery is china. The one i got is from a different seller but when i checked he had no stock but mine came in 2 days.Easy enough to search Amazon for a similar box price tho.

I have a friend with this exact model, turn the Bluetooth off fixes the WiFi issues.

I highly recommend you spend a bit more and get the Xiaomi MI BOX III (3) from this deal I posted (£52.21 with TCB).

Or this from the UK with telephone support if you need it, plus forums too.

The Mi Box 3 I posted certainly does: "Mi Box supports both Dolby Digital Plus and DTS multichannel HD audio encoding.
The result is smoother, dynamic, immersive and more realistic stereo surround
sound during ultra HD Blu-ray video playback." http://www.mi.com/en/mibox/

Perfect thanks for the reply. still a bit more than I want to spend to kind of downgrade what I have but seems they are coming along a bit further now

Had one of these for a while great bita kit, FYI regarding wi-fi I get minimum 20meg in another room, same floor away from router by about 20ft with doors shut, from 50meg fiber. Same room as the router should be no probs at all. Making sure your router is in the open as much as poss should help if you are getting low speeds and can not direct inject.

BTW Android 6.0 is a must if you are buying now and you want to use kodi17 at some point.
#26
Just out of interest, does anybody know why 32GB boxes only have 26GB of flash storage whereas 8GB boxes have 8GB and 16GB boxes have 16GB?

There is no overhead on flash storage so there is no logical explanation and even if that were the case, 8GB and 16GB boxes would be worse affected.

Either way you should do a clean install.

If Kodi is all you want to use it for, Libreelec is a must. My Librelec M8S II puts my £100+ minix box to shame.

Hi stix, I've not had any issues with the wifi I've noticed the Bluetooth is always on but never thought to switch it off as not had any problems.

overpriced compared to a few weeks ago. was around £26 then. there are different versions of this product. the ones manufactured after November 2016 are the ones with Wi-Fi issues as the manufacturer changed the Wi-Fi chip used, so most people getting these new ones will end up with a dud.

If you're after an Android box I recommend the "H96 Pro" which retails for a bit more, but spec wise waaaay worth it considering you will get 4x the storage and will be able to do 4K + HDR

can be bought from a few places, this is where I got mine
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/H96-Pro-Plus-Android-TV-Box-Amlogic-S912-Tv-Box-Octa-Core-3G-32G-Marshmallow-2/32767434535.html?spm=2114.13010608.0.0.KzkIzL

Android 6.0
CPU:Amlogic S912
3GB RAM
32GB Storage
4K
HDR

DTS 2.0+ Digital Out, Dolby Digital Plus
Up to 7.1 pass through

So I'm afraid it isn't going to do surround
