It'll be crap.

I've fallen into the trap of buying one of these twice now, a freecom and a pc world own brand one. Both 'bargains' - but both unable to pick up any kind of signal unless you fancy going up Snowdon, or nearest alternative mountain-based land mass.

The antennas are rubbish, although even when hooked up to the house aerial, the cheap no-name freeview receivers all fail. They're all based aound the same chipset with the same drivers and by the same company, so you won't get much sucess at all. My mate has a decent one though, shall try and find out what make it is if anyone's interested.

These are going to become very popular after the digital switchover. Most transmitters are only pumping out at 35-40% capacity. Here in Cornwall ours will change to 85% in July .Snap em up while they are cheap.

I think the reverse will happen.

With freeview HD channels planned to arrive in 2010, the current SD DVB models will all become obsolete. (as I doubt manufacturers will offer free firmware/software updates to add HD DVB support)

Regarding this deal; it isn't that hot at all.

You can get an equally poorly implemented usb dvb dongle from staples for just £12.49.

If you want the Scottish, Irish & Welsh channels too ...just add them under 'View', 'Manage Channels'...'Optional Channels' ....Create a group folder (plus sign at bottom) then add then drag the channels onto ur 'Group' folder....

No it doesn't, it has a few channels, but certainly nothing like all the Freeview channels.

I have a Freecom analogue/DVB-T one and it works flawlessly with a not very good rooftop aerial in a weak signal area.

None of these work with the portable aerial, any more than a stand alone Freeview box will with a simple stick aerial.

I have an 'August' DVB freeview USB adapter which is great.

It was £16.99 delivered from Amazon. I think it is HD ready too.

Used on my 22" LCD monitor it is the business!

So when your out & about with your netbook and theres no wifi or internet connection,or your mobile broadband is too slow to stream tv.(more often than not). Please enlighten me as to the options to being able to watch TV other than a Dvbt dongle. My ATMT one cost me £7 & when I am sat in the car waiting for the OH shopping on a saturday I plonk the magnetic arial to the roof of my car & watch Sky Sports News soccer saturday through my Acer one.BACK OF THE NET!

Probably the most sensitive dongle is the Hauppauge HVR-900 hybrid dongle (analogue & DVB-T). Latest iterations are also HD ready.

If you live too far from a transmitter and don't want to bother with a rooftop aerial, you could try a signal amplifier, such as this small AC/battery powered one from Maplins

Makes all the difference where I live.

I have this one nd it's excellant. Tthe analogue is useful for feeding in an output from a Sky or Freesat Box. The extra HD capability isn't much use in this country as it wont be the standard used here but there isnt anything available out there that can cope with the new Freeview HD transmissions anyway.
