Hey Guys,

Just picked up a Ministry Of Sound cd player for the car in woolworths. It came with a set of 6 X 9 speakers, a shiny gear knob and atax disc holder for the measly sum of £24.99

The speakers are £20 in Argos themselves

Bargain if you ask me! If speakers are not required then there is another CD player for £20 on it' own.

Yep

Never did like there stuff anyway.

Just sorry to see so many jobs go arround Xmas
#10
MOS stuff is usually quite shoddy quality, probably worth a punt at this price but could be a waste of £25 if anything happens to it with woolies going awol.
#11
Worst case the Stores will all still be open until after Xmas
#12
I did get one of these deals about 1 and a half years ago for 49.99, although sadly the system isnt very good, lasts about 6-12 months and then starts skipping, CDs get stuck and some just dont work. Not bad at this price though.
#13
does this have an audio in? for ipods and so on
#14
voted cold, because if you're not careful, you'll pay your money online and probably get nothing since they've gone bust!

I'm sure there will be plenty more stuff appearing on here from woolies due to the administration if they don't get sorted out!!!!

Just to make it clear. Woolworths are in Administratin, they are not being liquidated (wound up). There is a difference.

Administration - How it Works
After appointment, the administrator prepares a statement of proposals. Within 8 weeks the admin is supposed to come up with a plan to sort things out. This will be the result of negotiating with the big creditors. Within 10 weeks there has to be a creditors meeting at which you hope to get approval of rescue plan. To do all this, the Administrator has enormous powers. For one thing, the admin becomes the company and directors cease to have a role in management and can be removed or replaced. They decide whether to keep the business trading. If the administrator within the 12months decides he cannot achieve the goals then he can ask the court to terminate the administration. Admin is meant to end after 12months althoug under certain circumstances it can be extended. If the admins decide that they cannot save it, or find a buyer they may have to wind up which is a lot different...

Procedure for Winding Up (LIquidation)
• You start with an application to appoint a prov. Liquidator.
• Hearing of petition in court
• Interim liquidator appointed
• Meeting of creditors and contributories
- Liquidator appointed
- Liquidation proceeds
All employees lose their jobs and all aspect of the business are closed.

Basically what I am saying is atm Woolies are in administration and from what i have read the admins are keeping the business running certainly over chirstmas when the shop makes about 80% of their annual profits. So your order will be safe if you order online

Some folks love to paint doom and gloom when they know very little about financial administration.

Worst case, pay by credit card and get all your money back anyway!

More likely - Woolies will remain open until after Xmas and into the sales. They have Billions of stock to shift and the administrators want to realise this equity.

Further, any issues with the unit and it comes with a minimum 12 month guarantee. Same applies to anything bought from Woolies in the whole of 2008 - we dont all regret those purchases do we!

Buy in complete safety and even though I dont rate this unit on quality too highly, based on price it is a fab deal.

 cheers. The thing that did confuse me though was the fact they went to the high court to file for administration (which is costly) when the directors could do it themselves...with decisions like that maybe its no surprise they are in a bit of a mess...

I would hate to see Woolies fail and disappear from the High St for keeps.

Its has a wonderful eclectic mish-mash of pic n mix, toasters, kids clothes, toys, media, etc.! An Aladdins cave.

Unfortunately, its downfall was initiated back in 2004, when it was sold off by Kingfisher, whom cashed in on the property portfolio for hundreds of millions then leased it back to Woolies, leaving them with onerous 25 year leases with charges increasing 2.5% pa.

Fingers crossed it will get through this.

:oops:might be worthwhile you actually understanding company administration terms and section 75 of the consumer credit act before you spout off

Plus the warranty is with Ministry of Sound, not Woolworths so you can still get any problems fixed (it will be more hassle than just taking it back to woolworths though).

That's the price to pay when you want to have high margins of profit trough high-prices
Probably the same will happen to others like Currys http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2008/nov/28/dsg-currys-shares-john-browett

Unfortunately for us there are lots of high street shops like Jessops that continue to practice high prices. They will pay the price of that sooner or later...

Just to give you an example.

A Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM costs at Jessops £259.99 (and is because its reduced from £309.99
you can see it here
http://www.jessops.com/online.store/categories/products/Canon/EF%2050mm%20f1.4%20USM-12877/Show.html

The same lens costs at Jacobs £226.95.
http://www.jacobsdigital.co.uk/index.php?target=products&product_id=19943

And there are more examples. See for yourselves

My point is: the crisis is here. So, keep the prices low now.

Let's hope they do.

I don't claim to be an expert on the Consumer Credit act, but I understood that you were only covered for purchases over £100, so this wouldn't be covered.
