I just expired this deal.

I ended up getting Coder MiP but it's pricier and might not be the best for younger kids.

Thats what I've been considering for my 8 year old, he would be fine with it probably but younger one not so sure, plus she is now mentioning a Robot dog

My friend got the dog for her 7yr old and she got bored with it quickly. It's got few basic functions like barking when you tap its nose etc, the novelty wore off before Christmas day was over..

Thanks for the feedback, I did think even the Robot might be better for her.

Did you get the Coder from Smyths, are you happy with it or have you not tested it.

Yup, got mine from Smyths, £69.99 IIRC. I haven't opened it yet but it looks decent on YT reviews. The coding app is a bit limited, it hasn't got many conditions to break loops so you can't for example tell MIP to go until it bumps into something and then drive around it, but it's simple to use. If you don't want to spend £200+ on Mindstorms robot it looks like a good compromise.

The only let down might be the rechargeable battery, you can't just put in few spare AAs and continue playing while your set is charging.

Thanks, never thought of that, I was thinking the rechargeable battery would be a good thing, pros and cons

That's why I was done with my Christmas shipping weeks ago.

Yes always great plans to do the same but never had much time plus the kids were banging on about Hatchimals, then it changed to these Mip's
