What is this???

Good Price - however you'll have to pay the full price each year afterwards though (unless you downgrade).

There's not enough features to tempt me to get Mobile Me yet.

A way of syncing PC's, Mac's, iPhones, iPod Touch's and iPad.

Plus can upload all your pics, for example, onto the iDisk and then access them on any device without having to download them to each device (if that makes sense).

Has good features to 'Find iPhone' and remotely block it / wipe it / display a message.

I didn't get an email to say you had posted. Perhaps it didn't update the thread properly?
#6
Is it because I posted a link to the cheaper offer?
#7
Wouldn't have thought so. Where's the cheaper offer?

You can actually get it for free if you do a couple of Apple online training (open to thousands of IT reseller in UK and worldwide).

I got mine last week for completing Apple Products Professional module.

Amazing product, I thought it was just online data cloud. I now realised it is more than that.

For people don't know, with Mobile Me, you can
- pin lock down your iphone remotely if it gets lost or stolen.
- find the location of your iphone on the map
- display message remotely to user (u get email when msg has been read)
- wipe data on your iphone remotely
- setup your own mobile me email account which always push email straight to your iPhone (no waiting)
- send large (max 1gb attachment) files to anyone using your iphone
- 20gb online storage (adjustable between mailbox and online storage)
- access files on mac remotely(useful if you are out and about when you need to access files on your mac)
- use Online Pic Gallery
- sync MobileMe Calender with your iphone/mac
- setup your website
and much more......

£30 for the single user.. just share it with a few mates and get a good few pints like I have ;)
#14
Has anyone got a direct link to it? Liked the idea of it, and getting an iPad too would make it great.

Cant find it on PCworld anywhere.
#15
You have to pay for functionality like that on iphones?
Glad I went the Android route

You can locate your phone from any PC/MAC/another android phone and send messages to it (e.g. PHONE LOST - PLEASE CALL xxxx) and remotely wipe all the data if it's not found?

I never really understand what MobileMe offers for its high price. Most of its features are available on the Internet for free. The few that aren't (e.g. iPhone Lockdown/Location) kind of irritate me since frankly I think they should be included or offered by your phone operator. I know UK networks can ban a phone's unique ID from connecting to their network which is almost the same thing (*and can't be bypassed by wiping the phone).

I'm glad the people that want it found a good price however. :)

I've been using MobileMe (.Mac) since it started and it's an excellent service when you're hopping around from computer to computer and device to device.

There are loads of services that are cheaper and offer the same but Apple, as usual, have very clearly packaged it all up in a very easy to use and accessible service - well worth the £59 per year.

This is not necessarily the case, you can renew by using the code from a future discounted retail pack, or from one of the numerous sellers of mobileme codes on ebay. I've renewed three times using this method, usually from US sellers, although the exchange rate movements will make this a bit more expensive on my next renewal.

I have always been dubious about this but will give it a go.

Can I opt for the 60 day free trial and then use the CEX £30 code for the next 12 months? Or will it automatically charge me £59 if I opt for the free trial? Don't want to set it up and then have to reset everything if I decide to keep it.

It's got pros and cons but if you use an iPhone and/or a Mac, it's a useful tool.

From memory, you can use the trial and then add the code from the retail pack to your trial account. You can then do the same with future retail packs.

From site:

A credit card is required to start your free trial. After your trial ends, your card will be charged an annual subscription fee of £59.00*. Don't worry, to avoid these charges, you can cancel your subscription online at any time during the trial.
#23
Cheers Guys. Have started the free trial and have a new email address. I'm getting too much spam on my Gmail one so will be nice to have a new one. The calendar works a treat - will test the online gallery at weekend and decide whether to continue with it.
#24
arghh you tempted me on to the apple store now...ive been avoiding it so i dont go end up buying an ipad...you meanie

Yeah but you should still be able to go into the account settings and apply the code.

The code activation option says:

"If you have a box, look for the activation key printed on the card inside.

• Create a new account with a new member name

or

• Apply to an existing account

Renew your subscription or convert your trial or family member sub account to a full subscription"

Yeah, that's what I said - it's called Wave Secure
#27
Great price, thanks! Gonna check my local store tomorrow.
#28
Shame it has no integration with the blackberry. I guess a completely different smartphone. Although blackberry is quite secure, enter the password incorrect 10 times in a row the phone wipes all data otherwise its encrypted. Secure encrypted emails above DOD standard. Also for £5 has app to remotely backup data to a server connected to a PC & auto-locate on GPS & wipe commands.
#29
Do the trial and before it ends go into the accout and apply the code in the box. My licence runs out in December so I've got one from CEX ready for that. You can also host a website using the storage they give you 20Gb is pretty good!

Is this an annual charge??? :viking:

Mobile Me is great until it goes wrong.
I upgraded to the latest iTunes last week and the Mobile Me sync has not worked since then.
If you search the net a lot of people have been affected. Apple are aware of the problem but have not yet fixed it.

Having lost Mobile Me I have started using Google Calendar & sync. It's nearly as good although it doesn't do Contacts as easily. The one thing I will miss is the 'find your phone' function but £89 a year for family membership is a bit steep just for that.

I've ordered the £30 single user pack...

For anyone planning on giving the trial a go please read this massively inportant piece of advice!!!!

I used the trial and decided at £59 I wasn't really going to benefit from it at the time, now I have more than 1 mac my view has changed. Anyway, after cancelling it a few days later my iPhone came up with a message stating 'Unable to get mobile me data' or 'Unable to get mail for mobile me account.' To rectify this I deleted the mobile me account settings from my phone, I then went to call someone and all my contacts had deleted, I also noticed all my calendar data had been deleted.

Anything mobile me syncs will be deleted when you remove the account, Apple only keep the data for 7 days after you close the account and I was past this date. Thankfully I had a recent back up in itunes and restored almost everything....

So if you decide to end the trial, take a back up of your phone and data first!!!

I cancelled my Mobile Me trial - I don't really need it as I plug my iPhone into my laptop daily and don't use any other computers.

It was really easy to use and I loved the Gallery functionality (but I use Facebook for that myself)

It did delete my contacts and calendar, but checked these again in iTunes and it's all back to normal.
