I've owned this game for a month and only played this twice. Its got so much potential yet the devlopers have got it so wrong. just google 'mod nation loading times'

Took 30 mins to play it 1st time - had to do a forced update and loading times were horrendous.
2nd time, again, horrendous loading times and it kept booting me off the servers as I wanted to race online.

If you can get over the faff i'm sure its a great game. Voting warm, approach with caution imho.

think a patch came out recently that has speeded up loading times

Best price I've seen so far by a good few quid. I still don't have a PS3 but this is definitely one of the games I have to get when I get one.

The patch is out this week I thought?

might have got it wrong Arcana had a text through twitter - i had this game when it game out but got to repetitive for me - but will prob get it again when hits sub £15

Too much good stuff on the horizon, so saving the pennies! I think this is a sub £15 for me, but good price at this time = Heat!

Yep patch due Wednesday, for me it's one of the games of the year, over 100 hours on it so far, I intend to platinum it eventually. Frustrating, yes, but if you put the practice in it rewards you, great game, love it!

Patch details

This Wednesday, August 4th at 2:00am (Pacific Time), the ModNation Racers Title Update 1.02 goes live improving many of the issues the community has been concerned about. On behalf of UFG, we want to thank everyone for supporting ModNation and being patient as we’ve worked hard to make it the best experience possible. If you didn’t see the patch details on the IGN last Friday, here is a run down:

Load Time Improvements
While there are still loads, you will see decreases in load times throughout the game.

New “Casual” Difficulty Mode
We’ve added a “casual” difficulty setting in the options screen.

Challenge friends in XP Series
We’ve added the ability to invite your friends to XP Races & Series.

No more “Hot Lap” Cheaters
We fixed a bug that allowed players to cut the track and post unbeatable times in Hot Lap.

Get into Online Races Quicker
Along with improved load times, we’ve removed the online game room from the ModSpot so you can get into the race faster.

Improved Server Stability
We’ve addressed issues to improve intermittent disconnects that players were experiencing.

Three Challenges now more attainable
We wanted to provide you challenges, but didn’t want to sacrifice fun. We found 3 challenges that proved extremely difficult and changed the conditions to complete them. This includes:

* Devastator takedown on Wild Run
* Devastator takedown on Modobahn
* Sideswipe 3 opponents on the cliff side on Fracture

The Tin Bucket Unlocked!
Finally this is an item is unlocked and available to everyone by default.

Collector Card Improvement
Now see all player creations in their entirety.

Improvements to ModNation Racers don’t stop here, we are still constantly listening to the community and are committed to making ModNation Racers one of the most enjoyable experiences you’ll have on your PS3.

Awesome. Its a brilliant game no doubt about it, but like the OP says the load times put me off too. Nice to see its finally being addressed though. Its also nice to see a casual difficulty mode, as some of the face-off races I just cant be bothered with, since the AI can pretty much attain any score they want from a few seconds worth of drift. Makes it very frustrating when I only want the damn unlockables so I can focus on online play :{

Sony really need to force Naughty Dog into making another Crash Team Racing game for next gen, would be so great, CTR on PS1 is still the greatest karting game ever made.

CTR is so fun. better than mario kart. it had a story (i think) and 2player split screen battles and races. I Kind of agree, it may be one of the best karting game made

Sadly I don't think they'll ever make any more CTR games, when they made the first they were independent, now they are wholly owned by Sony, so no more multi-platform games.
I recently got CTR via PSN when it was on offer, still a fantastic game and looks brilliant on the PSP. Maybe they could do a Drake Team Racing oO

I really enjoyed the demo (but not the original beta) . Only disappointing thing was those aforementioned loading times but I read on the Sixthaxis today that a patch is coming this week so im tempted by this now . Great find , heat added .

My nipper will be chuffed. Cheers.

not cheap enough yet lol.
#17
Hot. Loved playing in the Beta, spent most of my time just creating mods. Been waiting for it to come down in price.
#18
OOS now...

I can see this continuing to hold it's price so a good time to buy.

Did you ever play spead freaks on PS1? I never played CTR on PS1 but bought it recently as a download for PS3 and was disapointed to say the least

Re Modnation, I can't decide whether to sell it and buy it back again later or just stick with it, not played it for a good few weeks now. Great game marred by the slow loading times and unnecessary loading ie 30 seconds just to load a menu - don't mind waiting for a track to load so much, but a menu? Hopefully the patch will fix that, any ideas on %age improvements?

The load times have been improved a fair bit with the last patch, I'd say around 30-40% faster, maybe more, hard to judge. Either way I no longer have time to nip downstairs for a drink before a race starts anymore (_;)

The "Casual" difficulty mode added however, is far from casual at all. Its basically a slightly easier than the default "Expert" mode. So basically casual is a "Very Hard" setting. The AI still cheats, which leads me to beleive I'll probably never finish the career mode. It gets boring having to restart over and over again just because every car behind you is faster than you (and the **** rocket spam you get when your about to finish the race in 1st).

I only had the three tough career "missions" to complete and I managed to do two of them within 20 minutes of completing the patch. Practice, practice practice

Sounds like it was due to the patch making them easier, rather than practice

Surprised they didn't make the 250,000 creation points trophy easier in the patch

It's more about learning the tracks, knowing where you can drift to build up your shield and learning to time the shield so you can survive several attacks. I could win the races easily by the time I reached the final section of the game, it was fulfilling the criteria and winning the race that was the problem.

Well I've been aiming for all 3 challenges for every race at the same time, but even still its ridiculously easy to finish all 3 challenges and stay well in the lead with full boost etc. The problem is, the AI seems to be programmed into saving their powerups for the last 30 seconds or so of a race. Even a full set of boost available wont hold a shield long enough to withstand 5 waves of rockets.

I rented this from BB when I purchased my new Slim PS3 to replace my YLoD 60gb. I heard so much good things about it and was told to play it by a few friends, but I have to be honest, I was quite disappointed. Nothing about that game feels revolutionary or new and feels like an average game at best, the reviews and Sony promotions really over-hyped it up just to try and boost sales on a mediocre game at best....

Each to their own I suppose, I love it.
