Which moron voted cold on this!!??? This is a cracker of a deal for a sub made by one of the best UK speaker manufacturers there is. If I needed a new sub I would snap this up in seconds. Fantastic deal indeed!!
#2
would need something expensive powering this I guess?
#3
"Graded" so ex display? Secondhand? A return?
#4
Its Powered, all large hifi subwoofers are pre-amplified.
#5
Not at all as it's an active sub with it's own amplification built in. As long as you have a half decent set of budget speakers it would still be a worth while purchase. Obviously it would be overkill to couple it with some budget PC speakers I would have thought this would be a great addition to even a budget surround set up. That's not to say it wouldn't be a fantastic addition to a lot of higher end set ups too!

It seems it was posted before at a higher price and got some heat...

Well it says "Graded High Gloss Black & Silver available - please call for a special price" so does that mean £299 for a new one but call for a better deal on a graded one perhaps? I've bought from Peter Tyson before and they're not con merchants.

Ive done some research graded is the varnish finish, there brand new.

Graded usually means second hand basically, probably customer returns, not to say that it is a bad deal though.. and that price of £750 was 2 years ago.

Graded items are products that may have been returned from the high street under the 14 or 28 day return policy. They may also be products that have not passed quality control due to the item having cosmetics marks or slight scuffs.

That site isn't very clear either way though..

No it isn't, graded means ex demo/ imperfect/refurb etc BUT these ones are new as Peter Tyson is selling them listed as new on ebay for the same price. I'm 99% sure the graded ones they have will be cheaper if you call them and are most likely ex-display but will have full warranty.

there still amazing value for money u wont get anything that will shake your house for £299. And still sound amazing.

I bought one off Sevenoaks at £349 - brand spanking new [Rosenut finish] in sealed box.

Absolute cracker of a sub! [my other subs are REL Q200E and REL Q50 Bass] Highly recommended! You'd have to spend an aweful lot more money to get any significant improvement IMHO. One of my best ever purchases

The graded ones here will most likely be ex demo, but the way these things are built like a tank, I wouldn't let that put you off sound quality wise. Should be well run in for maximum effect :-D

EDIT

Actually reading the listing again, this IS for a NEW one! It says to ring for price on the graded examples. Only colour available new is silver.

EXCELLENT PRICE THEN! :w00t:

Does it upset the neighbours? i have stuck with my tannoy sub for a while now, was thinking of upgrading, but these subs are a little anti social lol

TBH I don't know [and don't care! :p] I'd say not though as my house is detached anyway.

The thud out of this sub with HD audio is awesome!

Nothing like british made audio.

Unfortunately MA speakers are no longer made in the UK! Assuming this is an old model it may have been made here though but I know the current GS range are built overseas.

EDIT: The above wasn't supposed to suggest the MA speakers made overseas would be in any way sub-standard. I'm sure they wouldn't risk their fantastic reputation but putting their name on anything but the very best quality speakers (in their price brackets) no matter where they were made.

i doubt this thing performs well under 30hz, i would like to see the graph for the frequency response and how smooth the curve is at low frequencies. I also bet that you get the usual hi-fi boomy extended 40-50hz where it becomes too loud.

I would honestly look at spending some money on a studio grade active subwoofer, one who's graph is smooth and consistent.

21hz if it can produce it, will be very very very quiet!
#19
Has anyone called them and got a price for this ?

£299 does not include VAT.
