Directed by the world renowned Chen Shi-Zheng, with music composed by Gorillaz award-winning mastermind Damon Albarn, and design and animation by Jamie Hewlett based on the ancient Chinese legend of spiritual enlightenment.

This reworked version is a dazzling spectacle involving nearly 40 circus acrobats, martial artists and singers from China with an orchestra of Western and traditional Chinese instruments.

That's a superb price. I paid £10 and went a couple of weeks ago. I was only familiar with the cartoon (monkey king - I think it's the same thing) and not the show with real actors. I was however, quite disappointed; scenes seemed unconnected, music was rather poor, and the acting was sub-par. But for a £5 I suppose it's worth it for some pretty good visuals.

I love you nodham, off to see Arsenal whip Wigan then to see Monkey..just need somewhere to eat now mmm
#3
Got some - thanks - wanted to see this since seeing the Olympics - same guy who did the BBC visuals.

Suprised this isn't more hot, to be honest. Guess it has to be something more mainstream like Bon Jovi to get the real heat. :whistling:

well atleast Arsenal beat Wigan...the show was visually amazing and the acting was pretty good but i must say we left at the interval as i was nodding off as was everyone else.

the show is in chinese which is great but its hard to keep switching your head from side to side to read the subtitles and if you dont you miss whats going on and you lose interest.
shame as it should work but it doesn't.

I thought they could have put the subtitles on the back wall behind the actors as well. I enjoyed it, even though I didn't catch everything that was said - it really wasn't that important.

Guys.. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not go.... We went last Saturday night... £15 a ticket... was appalingly bad. We left at the interval.(which did not come soon enough)

Great deal I guess at a £5'er... as in.. it's cheap.. but I honestly I wouldn't sit through the first half of that again if someone paid me £50. this was the opinion of my wife, my brother and sister in law also...! :x

PLEASE do not say you were not warned..!!!!! :-D

It gets pretty good reviews and has had its run extended in London. Clearly some people like it, and they probably paid full price.
#10
"pretty good reviews" and "extended run" is exactly what sucked us in to be honest..!

I am sure some people have liked this.. Just don't want my fellow HDuk'ers to suffer like we did..!
#11
Hmmm anyone else got reviews of this? Wanted to go and thought it would be pretty good.
#12
Wohoo! I wanted to see this show but I haven't had time until...mmm tomorrow!!!
Heat added and Thanks a lot!!!

Sweet, it wont let you bag more than two tickets at a time but im off with the family Sat!!! Second hottest deal of the week Thanks :santa:

This is a really good deal. Love this sort of stuff. Usually pay from £25-65 for shows in London so this is absolute deal and a half. Have fun everyone going! I'd go, but none of my pals or familia fancy it.

Great Nodham - equal of heaven!

Taken everything into account - mixed reviews and all. Thought I'd chance it, as it's only a fiver.

Either I'll like it or I wont but I'm taking my sister down with me, if it's bad and others. I booked four tickets!

Want to vote hot and not sure how? Thnx!

Thanks for the heads-up. I would have gone again at this price if I were in the country, probably. Some of that sword-fighting was awe-inspiring.

You missed some amazing stuff in the second half.

You need to go see this with an open mind and realize that this is based on a thousand year old story.

I normally hate both circuses and musicals but Monkey had just enough of each to make it bearable.

Went to see this yesterday - thanks for the heads up. I needed to kill a few hours before my £9 Travelodge room was available, so this was a great way to do it!
#26
I thought it was very good - I'm not sure what people are moaning about. One of my favourite shows - definitely recommending it!
#27
Went this afternoon. Really enjoyed it.

Go with an open mind, and be prepared to read the storyline on the small screens either side of the stage. I thought the presentation and the effects were brilliant.

Thanks for the deal!

This was fantastic - best show I've seen in ages. Wouldn't have minded paying full price, but £5 was great. I hope they release a DVD at some point.
The only bad thing was the £10 they charge for the programme ... bought one anyway ;o)
#29
Shouldn't this be expired - £5 offer has finished unfortunatly.

Yeh second half is definitely 150% better than the first half. This is most certainly one of the greatest bargains I've had in a while!

Btw, you can thank me for bumping this 2 week old thread :whistling:

Back on a third (and final?) time on 28/12:

I think the current run ends on 04/01/09 so this is probably the last chance to see it for £5
