Review

An isolated lunar astronaut begins to lose his grip on reality in this cerebral sci-fi thriller with one heck of a twist.

Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell) is just two weeks away from finishing a lengthy, lonely contract mining Earth's primary source of energy, Helium-3, on the dark side of the moon. Thanks to a glitch in the communications satellite, Sam's only companion on this trip is Gerty (voiced by Kevin Spacey), the base's unsophisticated computer, and the odd recorded message sent from home. As his contract nears termination, Sam starts suffering from crippling headaches and vivid hallucinations, which lead to a near-fatal accident in a lunar rover. But while he's recovering back at the base, he makes a shocking discovery: a younger version of himself has arrived to fulfil the same contract Sam started all that time ago. Is the second Sam just another hallucination or something altogether more sinister?

I just don't get this film. I watched it the other week and I was falling asleep. I can see the clever Sc-Fi aspect of them film, but it was sooooo slow and boring. Enough people like it though so I must be in the minority.

What made it such a good film for you Dantooine?

Everything, mainly the storyline, also the brilliant acting, music and feel of the film. Yes it does sometimes seem slow but I think thats the point and adds to the feel of isolation - many sci fi films are similar (2001, Alien, Solaris)

Rubbish film, complete waste of time, storyline is completely boring. People are better off watching The Island or Blade Runner, it's similar sort of thing.

Sorry to say it but the opposite of my thoughts. District 9 was based on Apartheid and a great film and Tarantino well he never gets it wrong. Moon was garbage

Hehe

I can understand that all that adds to the feel of the film, I guess you just have to be in the mood to watch such a film, I was expecting the moon to blow up or something, I didn't realise it was going to be so slow, I really couldn't watch it again.

Inglorious and D9 were 2 of the best films of the year!!!
