  Make sure your centre matches your right and left as well, or it will sound off, different speakers cause different sounds.

  these do sound very different to some other brands, I'd say its less extreme and more 'balanced'...
  in plain english I'm saying they sound flat but just make sure your amp is configured with it and they do sound good
  
  I have the alumni home theatre set, and can't egt it to sound the way I want. Have had kef 2k and 3k sets before and even budget no name brands that turned out to be great.
  These need a good amp to sound as sweet as they can be. I just cant be bothered to change my amp or get a real expert to help set it up!

  Had this but the sound wasn't to my taste. It balanced well withmy budget speakers but just not for me

  The sound from this is very thin, not bad, just thin. Can't quite explain it, haven't owned this exact speaker but I recognise it a mile off as a later revision with same components as one I had a few years ago, also bought a bigger version of this with similar limitations.
  
  Very "bright" sounding, as poster above says, goes well with cheap speakers that lack good mid range.

  sorry guys, not much of an expert in sound systems. But is this for 4 spaeakrs plus the centre speaker or is this just for the centre speaker? Im movinghouses soon and was looking for a good surround system on a budget. I have an old amp which was told it was reeeally good back in the day (though it doesn;t have Hdmi - not sure if important) but only have crappy speakers

  Don't forget that sound quality can also be markedly influenced by you amp as well. Everything needs to be paired correctly for great overall sound.

  that would sound perfect!
  I used a denon and its just not right, I've paired the denon to a few other speakers and this was the worst pairing of them all, but what I kept with as it looked best... and was the right budget at the time. its not just looks, the sub size is important and fits just right!
  as others said, with the wrong amp it just doesn't sound right, like something is missing.
  I think onkyos can pair to any speakers and I think the amp can be more important than the speakers sometimes!
  
  *I currently have kef 3000s wired to a tv, yes an old CRT with its own amp... and that sounds better than these on a denon...
