AS reported in the Daily Express today, Morrisons and Asda to drop petrol and diesel prices by another 2p a litre. Total garages also dropping their prices, while Tesco and Sainsburys prices will 'Remain Competitive', which basically means they will only reduce theirs if there is a Morrisons or Asda close by!

My local Morrisons is now £1.03 for petrol and £1.15 for diesel

Still not below the £1 target for now, but getting there.
Reports also that due to the crisis in America, the price of fuel could drop as low as 74p a litre by next year.

Not holding my breath on that one though!!!!

Good to see the price falling from an unbelivable high!

I agree I can't see it going to 74p. I think it will stay around £1 for quite a while!

Wow!!!
#3
Wish our local Tesco would reduce the price Diesel is still £122.9 theiving gits
#4
Now that nearly all petrol retailers have updated their price boards to accommodate 5 figures I can't see them reducing it to under a quid!
#5
just been past my local asda in leicester its still 105.9p :x
#6
Morrisons Newcastle only dropped it by 1p to 105.9!
#7

Don't forget there's the free online site that gives an indication of recent petrol prices in your area (or on your journey) at http://www.petrolprices.com

I agree luckily enough my sainsburys is right beside my asda ao they cut to the same. But if your supermarket is miles away you are screwed.

Do you remember the esso pricewatch campaign. The original name dreamt up by the accountants was.
" Esso if there is competition close by we regretably keep our prices competitive but where we are out on our own we will charge the consumers way above what we should be to keep our fatcats happy" ut the PR boys didnt like it.

It often works... but not always!

Rules are great but if your dyslexic like me it always makes life interesting.

morissons by me only reduced by 1p to 105.9p, but still better going down than up. cant ever see it going back below the pound mark, but looking at latest crude oil prices ($91 a barrel) it might get closer soon :)

The price of a barrel of oil is not the only factor that determines the price you pay at the pumps. The dollar exchange rate is also a factor as all oil is traded in US Dollars, regardless of where it's pumped from. The exchanhge rate is falling at the mo, that's why the prices at the pump isn't much.

Tesco can go sit on a sharp stick. 110.9p a litre here still, near Cambridge. All the other retailers can as well, for being even more expensive than that!

A bit off topic but can anyone explain why Diesel is 10p more than unleaded? I'm sure before the price hikes it used to be 2p more than unleaded !

I have a choice of supermarkets with garages close by. Asda always seems to be at least a penny cheaper than the others. Asda also seems to save me money on a basic shop so tend to go there for the main shop then look for the bargains in the other marts.
#22
funny how the supermarkets can reduce petrol price but the government cant which shows even more wot a rip off this country is and wha a rip off government we have, last time labour ever gets in....
#23
UP THE TERRAS TO THE FIRST POSTER

..... although reducing petrol is a good thing - all of this I'll reduce petrol by 2p and everyone following suit is PRICE FIXING. Its illegal and goes to show that prices are held artificially high. The industry needs shaking up. If we did this in the industy I work in it would be highly illegal and unfair.

why dont the government reduce their 60% tax on fuel ??

oh i forgot, its cos fuel is a hidden income tax, and that is true price fixing.

Morrisons Byker was 104 (might have been 104.9 - didn't pay that much attention) this morning. I find it's usually the cheapest around Newcastle area along with Sainsburys at Heaton and/or Team Valley (usually cheapest for super unleaded.)

P.S. Anyone using petrolprices.com remember it's often days behind.
