called Mercedes of Bristol about MOT and said it was £35, but the service was £199/£299
I think the MOT is good deal if on its own.

What's the betting they find something wrong, requiring a £80+ part to be fitted?

My advise, go to an independent MOT station that does not carry out repairs if you want to know the truth.

Have to agree with SR. Dealer MOT's are ways for them to find additional things over what an independent MOT station would allow and charge you the high dealer rate for servicing.

Audi are currently offering a free MOT for older cars and I've just fallen foul of the same thing. In the end I took the car out and re-MOT'd it at an independent and passed with flying colours. The technician at the garage said he sees it all the time!

Yep, very difficult to regulate against this sort of thing so they get away with it. Quite fancy a Merc...maybe this year as a treat, who knows.

i wont touch mb dealers anymore after they ripped off my wife - premium branding is a joke....1st mot she forgot but the mb dealer in reading serviced it and didnt remind her...she found out about 1 year later as she assumed that they did the mot as part of the service the year before....they said its her responsibility, yes agreed but they should remind her....thats what you pay extra for...peugeot remind you!!
not only that when learnt she didnt have an mot they just ripped her off!! they charged £1400 for a service inc replacing front brakes/disks/pads (for a just ok £230), £160 for an oil change (wtf!!) and £140 for a collant change wtf! i refused to pay for the coolant and oil change charges that was outrageous so reluctantly settled on £1100
they also charged £650 to fit a new wheel hub, after we had agreed on £550! part only costs about £80 retail!! still trying to recover that but may have to resort to small claims! had to use an mb dealer as car wasnt safe and mb had part
i use a little local garage for my wifes merc now - last service/mot/oil change with mobil 1 oil was £140 (oil is about £30 in costco and mot is £35-51 so very reasonable and service is equivelant to the makor service @ mb dealers, the bargain 400-500 one)
for now i still use a peugeot garage for my peugeot as they arent as bad as mb but may use the local one too
id avoide mb dealers like the plague - local one is £120/hour labour - how the hell can they justifying that!!

Go to a council run MOT station.

I find it quite amusing when the owner drives a vehicle for a year without an MOT certificate and then blames Mercedes for "not reminding" him/her at a previous service that the MOT was due...........Cannot understand the phrase"thats what you pay extra for" and then quible about all the extras you paid.....I'm bemused.

eh why not, mb are in the SERVICE industry are they not? you must work for mb
did you not read my post...clearly not...my point is it is the drivers responsibility (which i stated), however the mb dealer in question should bear some responsibility given the fact that its been serviced there from day 1!
Thats poor service - peugeot provide this service, they send reminders a month, and week before

My experience with this scenario, dating back many years with BMW, was that the "official" brand garage mechanics were ordered to find enough work from each & every BMW to warrant their time & earn money from the cars booked in, luckily my mate & his team (or the majority) used to stick their heels in as much as possible in order to defy this...
The BMW garage near to me (that was) recently gave up it's BMW dealership after it was told it would need a ONE MILLION pound makeover in order to keep the BMW marque on it's forecourts.. they told BMW to go to hell,.. so imagine a portion of this on your MOT every time you go the official route.
Incidentally my colloqial village garage is utilised by various garages of higher "marques" to sort out the problems their own mechs couldn't suss.
it's an AGRICULTERAL based garage (ie tractors combines etc) ...I ve met their mechanics at the premo brand garages picking up vehicles to sort out ...
make of that what you will.
Needless to say I go to my local garage with our Mercedes as they offer good service which ultimately makes them trustworthy & reliable as they only do work needed & advise accordingly..

I am sorry to disagree with you. i drive a mb and agree that their service prices are very inflated but I dont think it is their responsibility to remind you of your MOT date..you would not expect them to remind of your road tax renewal date..would you?

Totally correct Sam1970, and yes Royals I did read your post, you seemed to have contradicted yourself, you also failed to answer my question.............never mind........you seem to be the sort of person who's never wrong anyway......Happy new year and chill-out a little.

No I don't work for mercedes..........just trying to rationalise your statement.
