NEVER ever, do the mistake of taking car to main dealer for MOT. I have done this mistake with audi, and suggest you not to do it. They failed my mot on the flexi brake hose being excessively damaged. When i got it replaced and checked the old "Excessively damaged" hose, their was bearly a scratch on it and it seemed like someone done it with his own nail. :s hate them.

go to a centre that only does mots then you dont get ripped off, there is a good article on MSE about this as well, councils also have to do Mots and are a good place to have them done if you dont have a good mot only locally to you.

I think I'll try them out and see, got it done at Nationwide Autocentres in Northampton last year with a voucher and had no problems.

As always it depends on the honesty of the person involved. Personally, I'd rather give it to a Citroen dealer than a owner managed garage.

You should have contacted VOSA, as this would be taken seriously, and if true, the tester would be suspended.

I was looking for information on that, But how do i prove that its the same old flexi hose that was said to be excessively damaged. Audi could suspect me as liar and that i have changed the hose and they can claim it was the different one when they checked the car.

+1 Not Vauxhaul either - "Oh we've noticed the clip has snapped on your CV boot joint, do you want us to replace it for £99" - :x

Took it to local garage, replaced for £10 and said they're renowned for finding 'snapped clips' - Easily to do apparantly with twist of a screwdriver.

Best advice if you have to take a car back to a main dealer - Is get plenty of photographs of the car (behind wheels etc..) before you hand over the keys.

My local Renault dealer was just as bad (they've now gone bust [shame!]) - Got car back from a service with dents under the cill. They'd not lifted it correctly on the two post lift and caught the car with one of the arms. I only noticed it when I got home. They never denied it and had to have it repaired and re-sprayed. Ohh... I could go on and on about that Renault dealer... :x Brake disc skimming specialists they were...

Mine was done at the main Peugeot dealer as I was having warranty work carried out at the same time.
Went straight through, no problems - £19.99

Agreed with all of the above, but...

Everyone has had problems with garages (ford for me), but when you find one you are happy to deal with, you stick.

Our local Audi dealer is great, wants business so prices accordingly. However 30 miles away, the same company charges 50% more for the same job. Same ******* dealer just different branch.

Always dangerous to go for a cheap MOT at a place that also does repairs.
#11
This is mad, you are voting cold and assuming they are dishonest before even giving them a chance?

Never get an MOT done at Kwik Fit.

They will fail your car in order to carry out unnecesary work.

The whole procedure can certainly be a lottery, I think your choice of MOT centre can also be dependant to some extent on the car in question, I have a Porsche Cayman that will be due its first test in March next year. Given the sort of specialist nature of the car quite honestly I would only feel comfortable taking it to a main Porsche dealership.

As difficult as it may be the bottom line is that you need to do a bit of homework and find someone you feel you can trust. Ideally a recommendation from a friend, family etc.

Depends on the branch I guess. My dad always uses Kwik Fit for the little thing (not an MOT), just because several time's taken his car in for little menial repairs and he's paid nothing because the paperwork's more hassle than it's worth

Wouldn't take my push bike to Citroen. I've been to alot of different branches in the past and they all try to rip you off or not do the job properly
