Why not? They were pretty cheap to repair the couple of things that my car failed on last month! Very pleased with them.
#4
And you should still be able to use Tesco vouchers!
#5
typical, I just did my MOT this morning for 40 quid. Still it passed without problems. Not bad for a 8 year old car!

Cheap for MOT

15% off a Full Service, now from £119
Many main dealers are doing servicing from £69.99 and £99.99 near me ( South Yorks)

15% off an Air-con Service*, now £58.50
Only £45 at Kwik Fit.

Wont vote it cold but it aint too hot on the whole of the deal.
#7
The price you quote is for mainly interim service(oil&filter only) this price is for full service

Took advantage of their "free mot" offer once, quoted me over £100 to fix a handbrake cable (1989 metro), I turned them down, took the "failure" to my local Garage, who said nothing wrong with it and showed me how to test it, then past it for me. I rang Nationwide who apologised! Remember there is lttle in this life that is truly free.

This is why you should only ever take an offer and nothing else from the same place. Every supermarket does the same.

Similar to what the other poster has said, Ive had to take the missus car away to get the repairs done after they failed its MOT, it saved us a packet. They also wanted to replace a headlight that didnt need replacing!

Having said that I will use them for servicing (Tesco clubcard vouchers!!!). Wont use them for MOT any more either, as its not worth paying half price re-test fee if you take it away! Council run test centers are the way forward

Suppose this is hot if you know your car is going to fly through MOT.
#11
I must have been quite lucky then by the sounds of it. couple of local indy places quoted around the same for the repairs/replacement (exhaust).
#12
Their service cant be that bad after all its approved by AA

I have a 7 year old Ford Focus, Fords quoted me £245 for majar service but nationwide autocentre are doing it £157, its got to be better then going to Fords or other high street cowboys

Fords Full serivce is £175 but autocentres are only £120

Lets have your opinions professional please
#13
yes i took my fully working car in for a service and when i took it away it broke down after a mile.I took it back saying they had ticked road tested and it was obvious this never happened as it was a faulty sparkplug they had fitted.BEWARE

10 times better than kwikfit any day.

All depends on the branch I guess, but the guys at Durham, were friendly and knowledgeable.
#15
Not voting cold, but I'd advise people to be very wary of discounted MOTs. I took advantage of a Nationwide offer a couple of years ago. They failed it on a few things which were bogus. Took it elsewhere and it was passed no problem.

My advice:

Use your local council MOT testing depot. They don't do repairs so have absolutely no incentive in failing cars. Just do a search on your council's website and you should find yours. Mine discount the official price by a few pounds too.
#17
As a price for an MOT it is cheap, but I wouldn't touch Nationwide Autocentre or Kwik Fit with a barge pole personally. Just couldn't trust the fockers.

Fully agree with this. Had a mate that used to work at Nationwide and the things he was told to do and say to customers was shocking. Might be a cheap MOT but the repair bill will more than make up for it.

I mean that they cant be that bad otherwise they wont be trading & they are the only garages to be AA approved

They will, 'cos as fast as one punter works out what they are up to and walks away, another one turns up.

What has AA approval got to do with anything?, they are just another company..

I would avoid like the plague, use a local trusted garage.

I am sure many years ago these used to be called Apple Cars and something else after that. Also I am pretty sure Apple Cars were on a Watchdog type programe who sent someone undercover to work there, soon after they all closed down and re-opened under another name. Will have to goolge it and see what I can come up with.

10 times better than Kwikfit is no great recommendation.

I have learned over many years that it pays to trust one particulaer Garage with your motors. I found mine through recommendations and over the last few years I have bought 5 cars and had 90% of any work done there. I trust them and believe they are looking after my interests. Would never trust Kwikfit/Nationwide or any others apart from Rapid Fit Aycliffe.

Re Kwik fit air con:
The service is fully automated as long as the operative inputs the correct model it can't go wrong. If it dont work you dont pay, if it isn't improved by 10% you dont pay.
I would not reccomend them for anything else but the air con service is a good deal.
I used it and reccomend it.

Thank you all for your comments
#28
Cold, wouldnt use these if you paid me
#29
A full service on my c class is £229
Sounds expensive!!!!!!!!!! yes i know
But @ the merc garage i use they are brilliant and dont rip you off and do it properly.
Never had any problems at all and car now nearly 9 yrsa old
Pete ( it pays not to skimp)
#30
Total rip off merchants, you`d be lucky if a brand NEW car past a MOT with these rouges .BEWARE !
#31
I am another one with a bad nationwide MOT experience.
7 of the 12 items they failed my car on were passed by another garage,I took it to a 3rd MOT test centre(crazy I know but i have a small child and wanted to know the car was safe) they also passed the Nationwide fails.
I complained to head office and was offered a free MOT  they didn't seem shocked or concerned other than to ask me if I had "reported it to anyone"
#32
I've been taking my Audi to the same guys at the Ilford one for years and they've been brilliant.

Got sick of rip off Audi garage prices/incompetence and people like Kwik Fit asking if my car was a company car before they would give me a quote for new tyres.

Shame my car isn't due for its next MOT/ Service until next year. Voted hot

Failed my car on headlight alignment then wanted £20 a side to adjust, VOSA guidelines say if it's fixable there and then do it for free.

Took it to my local garage MOT'd it there and then picked out the headlight alignment then just did it cost me no extra

Gimps the lot of them complaint to VOSA was ignored (another waste of space government agency)

This is a classic example of how they operate. Give you a cheapo MOT and then charge £20 to adjust headlight aim. This is a total con. Takes minutes to adjust aim. So £40 to adjust both is just taking the p..s.

I think it depends upon the location. The one in rayleigh essex is great, they have always been honest and point out any things to look out for in the future - but then I always point out I do the work myself. Plus I think they are so busy they dont need the extra work (or the time wasted doing a free retest)

You were lucky, they told me they couldnt re-align my headlight and wanted to replace it at a cost of £140! Took it to my local garage who aligned it no prob!

Yeah, I took my car to Nationwide and had something very similar. They didn't fail it, but gave me a warning as I had a "nail in my tyre", so I would need a full set of 4 tyres (manufacturer recommended, so they weren't taking the pee too much). I took it home and couldn't find the nail, so I took it to a second garage. The reason I couldn't see the nail was that it was the top 5mm of a pin, which was in no way a problem. It was in a thick part of the tyre, and would have taken a lot of running to actually penetrate it!

Not voting cold, cos at this price, get it fixed somewhere else, and if they charge for the retest then it's the same as a full price MOT with a free re-test!
