Is that the one with 1GB of RAM? It was underpowered at launch, and is certainly near obsolete now. Facebook and whatsup in the background and Chrome in the foreground nearly use up all the available memory.

PS: Yes, otherwise it is a nice phone, but the low RAM cripples it.
HaHa near obsolete!! We not all Facebook WhatsApp addicts you know.

take it that it will be the 1GB/8GB version?

No it's the 8gb/2TB special edition for £50 (_;)

Sorry, no idea. I think there was a few slips left in the display but i've got no idea whether that corresponds with actual stock or not. I've just bought a new phone so didn't inquire.

Checked the price of these on Sunday because I was looking for one for my daughter tried three different stores no stock and £99.00 each, checked again on the way home this evening still showing at £99.00 in two of them but one has it now down to £50.00 as per post but no stock suspect the price has not been changed because they are not getting any more in .So good luck to those who can get one.

this phone actually works fine with one gig ram.android closes applications as it fills up.android marshmallow is designed to run on less ram.its basically a cheap Nexus for 50 quid camera is great battery is excellent screen good and it's waterproof.also it runs really well with a snapdragon 410 andantech say it runs better than the moto g4 the newer model

How can a phone with a removable back be waterproof ?
1 Like #15
I have one. unfortunately I've found out it's not waterproof. tiny amount of water has messed it up. touch screen seems to have a ghost in it, buttons being pressed all by itself. I've enjoyed the phone and totally gutted it's not working properly. highly recommended little handset.

Not all Facebook and WhatsApp users are addicts you know.
Unfortunately though, even if you have them installed and rarely use them, they're still constantly running in the background consuming RAM and CPU.
Sure you can force them to close using an app like Greenify, but they'll automatically start themselves again.
I uninstalled Facebook from my Moto G2 as it has become increasingly bloated and resource intensive. Each time it ran a sync in the background it caused Google Music and Maps Navigation to stutter and crash.

But if the applications you have running use more than 1GB RAM the phone will slow to a crawl and apps will start to crash, and apps are now being designed with more powerful hardware in mind.

download greenify

Greenify will only keep Facebook closed if you root the phone (voiding the warranty) and use one of the advanced features, which stops other apps from re-opening it.

Folio for Facebook app is said to be good alternative. Not tried myself

I'm surprised this went hot.

I gave my G3 (1gb/8gb) to my mum and it's fine for her. She has exactly one app installed (whatsapp).

My Redmi Note 3 runs like a billion times faster though, especially loading and switching apps, web browsing etc. Of course it cost £112 though.

it's merely a good phone after the great g1 and g2. lack of stereo speakers is noticeable when watching a vid & lack of gyro (mainly) and NFC is a pain, plus the splitting of the 8gb rom/1gb ram and 16/2 models makes no sense - marshmallow seems to merge SD card and onboard but i've had bad experiences with android on 8gb or less before. not used the chinese/vodaphone rebadge alternatives but this phone gets beaten by them in spec so i bought mine for £150 (16gb/2gb) last year for 2 reasons no similarly priced phones have : waterproofing and stock android with fast 6.0 update.

if you can grab one for £50 you are getting the aforementioned features for a great price but i'm sure plenty of other sub-£100 phones crush this spec-wise and probably have marshmallow by now.

There were no Moto Gs in stock this morning at Tesco Metro Whitefriars, Canterbury.

The card you take to the till did not specify whether 8Gb or 16Gb

I'll be surprised if there's many available anywhere, I did the wild goose chase all around last time for this, the local tesco checked around for one in stock but couldn't find one. Don't know why they bother to even put the item cards on display if they don't have any

I have a 1GB/8GB 1st Gen 4G LTE, and have been using this for probably some 18months plus. Its very capable, and usuable, and I do have Facebook, Whats App etc on it. No noticeable lag, and its probably quicker than my iPhone 5S. Sometimes I think you RAM snobs are over-compensating for the lack of having a RAM-able device between your legs :D

I expect this to be worth the tenner more and my Moto E is no way a tenth as good as my iPhone 6

Exactly right. Use the browser. Even better with Firefox because you can install addons for privacy, FB messenger etc
