It has a snapdragon 430. How is this an upgrade?

The Moto brand seems to be going downhill recently.

They can't even get a successful Nougat update out for the 4th gen.

not really a great step up from G4.. pretty much comparable specs with G4.. was hoping for at least a better camera and processor when I heard about its launch... slightly disappointed.. (_;)

agree with the comments above, the G5 plus is the key one for new specs. However this update brings a smaller phone (size and screen, G4 was too bulky for most light users) with better power consumption, metal body, Nougat at same price point than last year despite £ tumble. For a non heavy user this is a good basic and future proof phone with tried and tested components.

basically if you have the G4 already not worth the upgrade, if you want one then go for this as it has pretty much everything the G4 plus had last year, screen is smaller but much better, less heavy, metal body, more RAM and turbo charging

It's about the same as the 617, from the G4, but runs much cooler. The G5 Plus has the 625 though, which is a fantastic SoC.

Hmmmmm my shortlist is this, P2, Honor 6X or P9 Lite..

Awful design.
Waiting for the Nokia 6 to drop

Why the 5 inch screen? :(

P2 looks good on paper but has too many bugs that lenovo seem to be ignoring. I reckon h6x is the best pic of that bunch although might want to hold off as apparently they are releasing a 4gb ram version of the 6x soon.

That's what I was thinking, they have their flaws. The Lenovo camera is probably the weakest however battery out weighs that. My fear is Lenovo will not support it.

The Honor 6X seems to have a great camera but lacking in other areas.

MOTO G has now become a brand within itself and will receive full support moving forward which is a big bonus.

Decisions lol

Will we now evolve onto the next debate to dominate the plethora of MotoG deals....

'Is it 2GB or 3GB'?

G5 plus will have same camera than Samsung 7, 12MP but dual focus and 1,7 aperture, anyhow one of the best on market, it's a Sony. just Google it.

just to add - here is a first look at the camera: https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/lenovo-moto-g5-plus-camera-first-impressions-review <-- they seem to like it, needed optical stabilisation to make it fantastic.

I'd have expected at least the 652 on this gens pro.

I'm leaning more towards the G5 due to ongoing support. Just wish it was sooner than April 1st, I need a new phone now lolz

Really surprised there's still no NFC for Android Pay.

You will have to wait for the G5 Plus for that.

It's a shame because a G5 with dual sim capability 3 gb ram and NFC would be ideal for me.

Maybe a Plus with dual sim may appear in due course but the specs I have seen don't include it.
#22
Still no compass on either model?
#23
I wonder if the Amazon ones will be dual SIM? - I seem to recall on the G4 and G4+ they initially said dual SIM but only the white one had it.

It tells u on the website - the standard edition at £169 is not, while the exclusive version 3GB at £179 is dual sim

Yes it does so that looks promising

Generally the opinion of those who have seen n played with it is the G4 is not worth upgrading from to this.

I prefer the design of the G5 over the G4 however in terms of spec it's not a huge leap forward, mainly cosmetic and Google assistant.

I would say the shift to Lenovo for the MotoG has been a complete & utter failure (for me as an anticipating punter & fan of the MotoG 'franchise')

Totally agree, it's been a disaster and they seem to be going backwards. A fan too of the moto franchise but wouldn't touch it with a barge pole nowadays!!

I bought the G1/G2/G3 (8gb & 16gb). I thought the G4 was horrible & don't see any progression with the G5

Heat added for being the first G5 deal to post and with the Amazon exclusive 3GB configuration. Indeed the upgrade between the standard G4 and the standard G5 is incremental, but the upgrade between the G4 Plus and the G5 Plus is more pronounced and this is where the smart money is. 3GB RAM, 32 GB Storage, upgraded camera, upgraded Snapdragon 625 2GHZ processor, NFC, 4K video etc. This will retail for £260, but if with some competitive discounting, the price is nearer to the £199 sweet spot, the phone should remain running fast for a long time and only hampered by the lack of future software updates.

Get the redmi note 4x. Better phone for less money.

i agree that moto g5 plus is the one to go for (mainly for the possibly better camera), however this model does also have removable battery.
nice one..

question for owners of the moto g4 (dual sim). Does the dual sim aspect take its toll on the battery? Also was the execution of the dual sim spot on or was it buggy?

Not buying anymore Moto devices since it is now Chinese owned

Don't trust Moto as many devices of G4 plus are facing screen burn issue and the company is not able to solve the problem clearly showing the cheap quality use by Lenovo in manufacturing Moto mobiles (my personal experience)

I understand your view due to personal experience (Moto G2 owner myself, love it still but needs upgraded now) however this is a new screen for this generation hopefully the problem is now fixed.

Every since that's stupid Chinese company Lenovo took over, Motorola has gone downhill.

Slap a minor upgrade and it's a new phone.

Before when Moto g 1st gen came out. Updated came within 2-3 months. Moto g came with Jelly bean, got a update to KitKat and another update to Lollipop

Nowadays you'll be lucky to get even 1 update with this crp Lenovo!

well when the business was bought off Google, they joined the queue for updates... since version 6, Marshmallow, it has become quite space consuming. Mine is struggling with 8gb storage hence why I need an update... 1gb ram is also not enough these days.

anyone knows why the hell there's still no Nougat update on the G4/G4+ ?
