Halfords have reduced their motoring abroad kit to £20, but you can also add a breathalyser and extra hi vis vest to your basket and it's still 20 pounds. Takes another 9.98 off at basket. Doesn't show an end date online.

Well worth getting, from what I remember of my drive through France last year, you NEED to have these by law, also, you want to make sure there are 2 breathalysers in your kit, as they will still fine you for only having 1, as if they ask you to use it, then you no longer have one to use, grrr.

The fine for the breathalyser has been suspended but not sure of implications if you are stopped and don't have them.

You also need to carry two because if pulled over and asked to use it you can possibly be fined then for not having one and they have a two year lifecycle so I understand.

As Stevet29, no one has ever been fined for not carrying breathalysers on board.

They are only on sale at Halfords etc. and the Channel Ports - not in France.

January 2013 - the French government announced that the implementation of the sanction for drivers not carrying a breathalyser – a fine of €11 – has been postponed indefinitely.

So theoretically you are still required to carry a self-test breathalyser when driving in France but there is no current legislation demanding a fine for non-compliance.
