Currently showing on website at £99.99 (still about the cheapest I can find) - however, if you top up by £20 you get a £50 reduction on handset price bringing it down to £49.99 (click on the "i" next to phone for full info).

I was having trouble ordering online so I called them direct on 0800 079 2000 and they stated the price was £59.99 including £10 top up (apparently the offers the Call Centre offer are slightly different to the online deals). I then stated I was an existing Orange PAYG customer, and even though they couldn't give me a discount, I didn't need to add the top-up therefore price would be £49.99 in total - please note they asked for the account I had registered with them. Therefore, options are as follows:

Existing Orange PAYG customers - call them and hopefully get same as me for £49.99.

Non-Orange Customers - call them and get it for £49.99 plus £10 top up OR order online and get for £49.99 plus £20 top up (and possible £5 Quidco cashback).

Reviews are pretty hit and miss but these were based on a handset price of £150-£180. Not saying it is a San Fran beater but almost half the cost and might appeal to younger generation - must be the cheapest Capacitive Screen Android handset about ( brand new at least).

You can also use XDA to debrand phone and make it run better.

Might be a bit small for some but quite 'cute'. Also, not sure on how easy to unlock.

More of a slider than a flip out. More useful if it was a real flip out.

my wife got one which comes with 5 back covers
really cool
#3
seems like a good phone for the young ones and @ that price even better cheers OP ;)
#4
How do Orange Pay Monthly customers stand? I don't suppose we can get existing customer prices but without the top-up?
#5
Much better price with loads of functionalities. Better than spending £30 - £40 for a Mifi as this mobile with Froyo can be turned into a wireless hotspot.

This or San Fransisco?

Read that Motorola ruled out this getting Froyo, is there a third party rom for it or is it unlikely that it'll ever have Froyo on it. Can't see many posts about the phone on the usual android sites so looks like it's stuck on Eclair to me.

Mind you I think there are apps to give Eclair phones hotspot features.

Info on how to de-brand phone to remove all Orange stuff:

Orange de-branding:
1 Download usb drivers here below

http://developer.motorola.com/docsto.../?pubid=987654

STEP 2 Download the debranded Firmware here (note you can also use the uk one with motionblur its your choice for debranded use the RUTEM_U3_01.14.2 Central Europe

http://and-developers.com/sbf:ruth#bootloaders

STEP 3 Download RDSLite Latest is v4.5.3 here below

http://www.motorolafans.com/forums/a...load-here.html

STEP 4 Install the USB Drivers and the RDSLite program and reboot PC

STEP 5 Extract the firmware file you downloaded a while ago to c:\Program files\Motorola\RSDLite place the folder you extracted there.

STEP 6 Start the RSDite program now where it says filename press the select area and find the downloaded firmware in c:\Program files\Motorola\RSDLite and select the (sbf) file some details will apear on the right hand side.

STEP 7 Now power down your phone and press the up button on the dpad and press the power button for 4 seconds and release the power button only you should see a bootmenu displayed reading the boot vershion and a simple battrey check etc.Now plug in your usb cable it should start loading usb driver wait for it to finish and your ready you should see where it says (port type) your usb connected in RDS Lite this means your ready to flash.

STEP 8 Press the start button on the RDS Lite and just relax while your device gets flashed, debranded etc. you will see a progress status on the right hand side wait till it reaches 100% but please do not disconect it will reboot the phone automaticly and restart the phone. And just wait untill android comes up and fully running untill you disconnect it should read (PLEASE START PHONE MANUALY) on RDS Lite when this shows it is safe to unplug.

STEP 9 Hopefully you now have a debranded phone and or unbricked your phone if it all went wrong for you please read carfully word by word and try the procedure again thankyou and enjoy.

This or San Fransisco?

If money wasn't a factor then certainly the OSF is far superior however, non-orange customers still have to pay in excess of £100 (including top-up) and this is almost half the price. I certainly wouldn't pay the price that other retailers are charging for this phone (£120-£170) but at this price point might appeal to some.

CBA to follow the instructions to check, but can this be unlocked during the debranding process?

Follow the link, select Motorola and £60-£99.99. It's the only phone that shows up.

this is a superb deal, alot of people will much prefer the keyboard on it to a touch screen phone aswell.

But the keyboard is tiny. Is it really usuable or just a gimmick?
#20
Ordered. Will give it a whirl. Unlocking seems possible on Ebay
#21
Tempted, as I do prefer a physical keyboard on an Android handset (all fingers & thumbs with the touch screen! X) ) - I'll try popping in past a store tomorrow to see if I can get it knocked to this price instore.

PS - Good find OP 8)

Brilliant deal. thanks

Well the Customer rep told me he cant give just the phone without the top up credit... I have to buy topup with it.. well the PAYG number which i gave was pretty old.. barely used and had funds used from the reserve tank.. so that could be a reason.. but not sure..
#30
Not touching a Motorola android again! Had Dext and it became very slow with dreadful battery. No updates to newer android.I'm now a proud owner of Osf and don't miss the physical keyboard. I will most likely until I can afford an iPhone.

it's only another £10 for credit, and you can sell the sim for about £5 on Ebay. Still good price
#32
Meant most likely keep, sorry writing this from osf and there is no edit as it' mobile version.
#33
Thanks ordered!
#34
Haha! Orange are giving it me for £39.99!
#35
just ordered one, am registered a s apay as you go customer but have never topped up, gave it to me for 39.99 if i took out a rolling sim only deal at 10 a month which i can cancel with 30 days notice, so total was 39.99 and will have to register and top up sim when it arrives... or maybe not.... not many phones left
#36
This is frustrating, tried for the rolling deal and they would not budge at 59.99. Grr!
#37
Thanks OP.
Just rang orange sales line and got it for £39.99...had to ring twice though to get it for that price.
