4G is lightyears faster than 3G.

As Captain of the Enterprise, you should be well aware that a light year is a measurement of distance and not speed or time.

The phone is very quick to use and easy to set up. Android takes a little getting used to (I'm an iPhone user myself) but it soon seems to be pretty intuitive. My only minor grumble (and it's probably just an Android thing) is the advertising in a lot of the apps I downloaded from the Play store but that's not a problem with the phone itself.

This is my last comment (ever hopefully!) about 4G as I am going to go off and live my life.

In 2 years 4G coverage probably will be good. In 2 years I will probably have another phone. Right now it is still quite patchy, and not worth it for most people who will buy a Moto G - a) PAYG users, b) lower tariff contact users.

Too bad. Life's not perfect ....

I would buy this version instead of the 4g.
This has more and better features IMO. Sd card slot dualism and 5inch. If u desperately need 4g. (Hardly any good coverage anywhere except London). Go ahead and buy the 4g

Well, unlike most people that comment on these deals saying how great the … Well, unlike most people that comment on these deals saying how great the phone is, i've had it longer than 3 hours! I've had this phone since release day, and it's just horrible to use! screen is unresponsive, keyboard lags at almost everything, the battery life will just about last 3/4 of a day, the phone lags a lot! and the build quality feels cheap and tacky! much preferred the original G over this, i'm looking at selling mine, and I really would not recommend this phone, however much better it looks on paper, you will be very disappointed!

I know this deal is over but thought I'd give another view on this phone vs the 2013 Moto G in case it is of use to potential buyers.

I've also had one of these for more than 3 hours (3 weeks to be precise) and have been using it daily alongside my old (well if you count 2013 as old) Moto G. Wanted to spend some time with both but today took the decision to trade in the old one.

I have no issues with the battery life on the 2014 model. Haven't done any 'scientific' tests but my gut feeling is there's not much between them.

Screen is perfectly responsive and the keyboard doesn't lag any more than the 2013 model. Build quality seems fine and I prefer the rubberised back as it feels much more secure in my hand, whereas the smooth plastic back on the old one often felt like it was about to launch itself when I took it out of my pockets....and did once resulting in a close encounter with the pavement.

For me the good / bad points of both phones are as follows:

    2013

+ sharper screen (same resolution but better pixel density)
+better colours imho (white seem more accurate)
+better size for one handed use
+ slightly better call quality (earpiece seems louder & a tad clearer)

    - smaller screen
    - no sd card slot (although the 4G version does have one)
    - poor camera

    2014
+ larger screen (great for movies etc.)
+ front facing stereo speakers (great for games, movies etc.)
+ much improved front & rear camera
    + sd card slot
    + (for some) dual sim

    - colours not so good (slightly warmer and whites seem a tad yellowish - only noticeable in direct comparison though)
    - bit of a slab in the hand
    - screen a tab less sharp due to lower pixel density

Not going to say one is better than the other as they both have their merits. Really depends on what features are most important to you.

bought this as "upgrade" to the original moto g however guys dont be fooled, this does not come anywhere near to the battery life of the original moto g and for this reason i returned it and kept my moto g 1st gen.

when they added larger screen and all these extra features shouldnt they also upgrade the battery size?

I couldn't care less about all these top end phones, yes it would be nice to have one so it lasts a few years longer but are they worth the stupid price they ask ?

I use my phone for a few games, calls, text, emails and reddit.

Got a PC at home to do everything else.

£129.00 for a phone that will do everything.

    Cant say no.

I don't understand the obsession people have with 4G. You're lucky just to get reliable 3G coverage in most parts of the UK! Too many people are suckered by marketing IMO.

I have this phone and it has been brilliant! Dual sim means I can take advantage of the best data and text deals from more than 1 provider. I also don't think I could go back to a smaller sized screen after using this.

The screen is higher res on the Moto, quad core as well rather than dual core. The Samsung has 4G but that's about it. After Kitkat I doubt the Samsung will ever get any further updates. My money would go on the Moto G.

    i presume it is locked.

It's almost as if you didn't read the product description or the start of this thread. What would be the point in a dual sim phone if it was locked to just one network?

Come on its a no brainer. Id rather spend 100 and odd quid on a phone with this spec and knowing very well in a couple of years is going to get replaced like anything nowadays. Not like (cough cough) a iphone or such which you will spend 3x as much to do same thing and you will replace it in a couple of years. Just my own opinion.

Just wondering whether to sell my Iphone 5 and get this when my contract ends early Feb. Looking to get a £10-15 sim only - no longer 'need' to get the latest and greatest every time my contracts up for renewal, can't justify it, either gonna stick with my 5 for another 18-24 months or sell it and use the cash to buy this. What to do? Hmmm, any input welcome.

Unless you've fallen out with Apple/iOS for any reason I'd stick with what you have assuming the iPhone is OK and battery still performs as you need it to. Most iPhone owners have invested in apps and iTunes music which makes moving to Android a bit of a leap.

There will be plenty of other lower cost Android handsets released in 2015 i suspect which will give you time to investigate the move more fully (there's some good articles around from moving from iOS to Android) and you get to keep the cash in your pocket for now.

I've been on Android for several years since I fell out with iTunes when i had a iPhone3, but wouldn't move over just for the sake of it.

Nope I live near to the science park in Cambridge one of the most techie places in the country! Still there are large area around here without 4G - just look at coverage maps if you don't believe me. And what anyone who is on 3G can tell you, is that they get on perfectly well without it! By the time it is near ubiquitous, I'll be upgrading my phone and everything will have it then, but for now 4G is most definitely an optional extra I can manage without happily.
