Another option is to buy the Moto G4 locked to Tesco Mobile for £149. Add something cheap to get the total to £150 so you can add the voucher code TDX-WYMJ which gives you £20 off a £150 spend.

You can get the phone unlocked on ebay for around £1.15

After voucher and unlock you will get the phone for around £131.15. Maybe worth the trouble to save a few extra pounds or to get the phone in blue.

That will be the G4 Play - which is basically very similar spec to the Moto G 3rd Gen.

The phone is pretty good. Nice screen, OK camera and responsive. My only gripe is the lack of compass. Google maps points the wrong way when following walking directions, and can't use automatic mode on Sky maps when the kids ask me which stars they are looking at.

Thanks for this. It has saved me a lot of time reading reviews. The compass thing is a deal breaker for me. I had a windows phone a few years ago without compass and I couldn't get on with the mapping. Mush prefer when the map orients itself to where I am facing.

motomaker???

Motorola's site for purchasing phones directly from them. It also allows you to customise the colours (that's the 'maker' part).

I just noticed the Motorola have added NFC to the spec of the G4 Play, which means it's compatible with Android pay... It seems ridiculous that NFC is missing from the other G4 models, especially the G4 Plus with it's fingerprint sensor.

Motorola's mix of models and variations are a complete mess.

Who remembers the days when you can get £10.00 voucher when you spend £50.00 as a new customer. I miss those days

You're right. But TBH Mrs wants NFC after me using it all the time on my Nexus 5, but wants sim free and as vanilla Android as possible. Her 1st gen is remarkably untouched by Motorola.

I'm even considering an X myself after the disappointment of the 5x & 6P specs

yes, some apps cannot be installed on SD, or still leave some data on internal storage. I dont have many apps/games and keep running out of internal storage (16Gb internal, 128GB SD card)

Remove the apps you don't use. Before you say, there will be apps you don't use.

I was going to buy the Motorola G4 until i popped into my local carphone warehouse store. I finally settled for the huawei p8 lite in the sale for £109. I was stuck with the usual stuff with those lot having to buy a top up card. But I still think it was a good deal taking into account what the phone specs are.

I'm a little confused - is this the Moto G4 (2016) version? Thought it had dual SIM...

Just pulled the trigger on the Alcatel Idol 4 myself. A better overall package IMHO, thinner, lighter and has NFC:)

Are you using the SD card as 'portable storage' or in 'adopted internal storage mode' ?

I thought if you select it as adopted internal storage it acts just in that way - without any problems from the apps?

In my experience its basically no different to apps2sd in lollipop. Most apps still can't be moved to the SD card, and many that can still don't work properly (crashing, widgets missing, widgets not updating).

The only real difference is that the SD card becomes encrypted so that its only accessible on the phone.

Some of the white models were Dual-SIM, mostly sold by John Lewis. I think all new stock is single-SIM unless otherwise stated.

Its on a Sony, so don't have that option (i dont think). Good idea though, if it works.

edit - seems to be an Android 6.0 "feature", so will see if i can do it.

Its not so clear cut there are certain restrictions, its also up to the developer whether it can go onto the SD card, the same as it was with move to sd card function.

Make sure its a decent card also because if it fails you have to reset your phone.

The white one is dual sim. Black one is single sim.
