Sorry for not noticing back then... !

And so it should be, its more than double the price.

Personally I don't think its worth the premium over a regular G4.

This or a Chinese Smartphone??

It's a good phone. This one is dual sim & 2gb ram. There's loads of different versions of the same phone out there so check all the spec before buying.

On the plus side there's not too much bloatware & it's good spec for the money. The camera is good too. The turbo charger gets it to 65% in 15 mins.
The only negative is the battery won't last all day under heavy use.

189 on motorola direct and u can customise it! u just need the right discount codes.
#10
The Umi Z and Ulefone Gemini look good.

This phone was £165 on Black Friday - I was going to order 2 for myself & the missus but didn't get the opportunity while at work so missed out. Last time I looked there were some good Amazon Warehouse deals available on this phone - about £177. Just damaged packaging.
#12
Be careful with this phone, especially if you buy direct from Motorola. Numerous reports of 'ghost touch' and customer 'service' is dire.

If not this which phone?

Good question but I'm no expert. Currently looking for a replacement myself, despite Motorola refusing to give me a refund for my faulty Moto G, in contravention of the Consumer Rights' Act.

It's a brilliant phone when it works but mine hasn't since it was 12 weeks old. I possibly would have had more luck getting a refund if I'd purchased it from a 3rd party retailer - at least a reputable retailer would hopefully adhere to their statutory obligations.

Some of the Chinese phones look great value, like the Doogee Y6 Piano and the Ulefone Gemini.
#17
Not out yet though. I'm a bit wary of ordering from an overseas company that I've never heard of. Having said that, I didn't do very well in ordering from Motorola, a household name, and there's always Section 75 as a fallback - which I'm now going.

OMG ! oO my 1st post and it has Frozen !! :(
Why does the Motorola G4 Play get hotter votes when this Motorola G4 Plus has more features inc a 16 MP camera?

Maybe because it is nearly £90 less and deemed to be better value despite its lesser spec

because many people here would rather buy cheap and buy twice !!

apart from the name on the back these two phones bear no resemblance, the "play" lives up to its name being a mere child's toy while the "plus" is indeed a slight improvement over the "normal" G4 and I think it's worth the difference just for the fast charge never mind the much better camera and fingerprint sensor and dual SIM.

best sub £200 phone

surprised the P9 fans haven't surfaced yet !

Better off with the P9 lite :p

I had ghost touch with mine, phone just used to go insane every time it was charging and I was trying to use it at the same time.

The Plus also seems to be more prone to ghost touch than the basic G4.

Where did you buy it and how did you resolve it? I could have found a way to live with it if it had 'just' happened while charging. However, mine happened whether it was charging or not - probably did it while I was asleep!

I had to send it into Motorola who had to send me a new handset (took 25 days) they said the phone could not be repaired and had to be replaced. The problem is very well known to them though as I spoke to the tech team who confirmed it was a common issue with the g4/g4 plus.

seems reasonable enough to me

Personally I don't think its worth the premium over a regular G4.
It has a better camera, the fingerprint sensor is really useful for unlocking phone and comes with a free turbo charger which the standard doesn't, and the moto version has double storage, so all in all it is worth the extra, admittedly depending on what price each version is at, which does fluctuate.

For an extra £50 or so over the normal G4? Not in my opinion. The camera is only marginally better in low light, and I found it to be worse in situations with harsh lighting (poorer dynamic range). The fingerprint sensor is useful and very quick, but not worth the premium IMO. The 32GB version sold direct from Motorola is always out of stock, and is £230!

Do you own a G4 plus version ?
At present the G4 is priced at £169 with Motorola site offering a £10 discount with code.

Looking back at most of your comments it seem's as though practically unless you have owned one of these and experienced it's model type specs, then £189 is too steep for this price smartphone as sold by Amazon ?
What other smartphones would you recommend paying for less or equiv to these same spec model of the G4 plus then ??

No point spending big on a phone, the advancement of phone tech means it'll probably need replacement in 2-3 yes anyhow. So cheap and disposable is probably the more frugal way forward.

I'd also add that 1gb of ram is fine for most apps; but not games. If anything the G4 play would be better named G4 business or similar. For social media/eBay/photos/SMS/WhatsApp etc it's more than fine.

I use a lot of smartphones, because I review them for the company I work for.

I'm just giving my opinion. The normal G4 has been available for around £130 or less multiple times (currently available for £130 at Very). Unless you really need a fingerprint sensor, I just don't see the point in spending an extra £50 for a phone which is almost identical.

My personal choice for a phone around this price range at the moment is the Huawei P9 Lite.

Did they not even attempt to repair it then? How long had you had it? Were the tech team you spoke to in the UK or abroad?
