No compass and no barometer, so no go for me. Pity, because it looks good.

Ha, that's spooky, I'm exactly the same! I was really tempted by the regular G5 but from the specs it sounds like on paper at least the processor is actually slower than the S6 (1.4 vs 1.5ghz on the S6) so I might have to go for the Plus...

No wireless 802.11ac or NFC either. I was thinking of this to replace my Nexus 5, but that's not looking likely now.

I would forget the G5's and get a Lenovo P2 instead

Better in every way, apart from the totally stock Android but Lenovo are so slow at updating that it negates the benefit. Strange to see Lenovo cannibalise their sales like that but who cares, the P2 is great :D

Because it's targeted at people who probably don't want to waste money acquiring new USB-C accessories and cables.

Thanks, very tempting. I thought the P2 might be a bit too big but there's only a couple of mm between the two because of the G5+ screen-to-size ratio. I must admit I'd feel a bit cheated buying a new phone which doesn't have the latest version of andriod tho...

yeah, the camera is also top notch, lighter and smaller with metal body... I think it's worth the extra money.

i almost bought the p2, but the issues listed put me off (its as if quality control was a bit hit and miss).
i plan on buying a moto g5 or plus and getting it from a shop with reputable warranty handling (in some cases that would be extending its warranty to two years) just in case an issue like last years ghost touch starts showing up (which i doubt it will - but you never know.

Thanks guys. I'm going to order a P2 through the 3 deal this week. My only worry was the camera but can't go wrong at £210!

Heat added for being the first G5 Plus deal. However price is too high and a lot can happen in two weeks in respect of other deals.
#28
I doubt the price will be any lower, last year G4 Amazon pre orders were the lowest for 6 months and they were running out of stock often. Until we have a UK price fixed (£259 is what was published but euro price is higher than expected) this is the deal

serious question here and I own and use the G2, what does the compass do? what is the use? why is it so important? I am just trying to know if I would miss it...

It's the usual game for Lenovo Moto. So many variants.

There was a lot of confusion with the G4 Play too, everybody was convinced it had 2GB RAM because all the reviews stated this, but the UK version was only 1GB because that's what the UK customer preferred apparently.

unless I want to do orientation without the GPS on it basically doesn't really do anything then? I see why my dad wants to get my G2 then...

Oooh, compass could actually be an issue. I'd never thought about it before but always wondered why Google Maps and Viewranger could be a PITA with my current phone not pinging up my direction. Sans compass. I'd just put it down to being a £35 phone (Moto E 4G.)
That concerns me.

What about buying this from Flipkart in India? 16,000 Rupees equates to about £197.00.

if your GPS is on and you are moving then that is not an issue... that's what I understand of it...

So will the standard G5 have NFC in the UK?
