I went into Poundstretcher (Exeter) today and at the till saw they had these phones. My mum needs a new one so I thought heh £6.99 ain't bad! These come with a Virgin SIM but are unlocked so will take any SIM card. It is dual band so won't work in the US, but should be fine around most of Europe, so great if you are going on holiday abroad!

If you haven't heard of the F3 before it is just a phone, with basic text messaging abilities. It calls, it texts, and it doesn't do much else! It has a high visibility OLED display and voice prompting so is great for people with limited technical ability (i.e. my mum!).

Here is a good review: http://www.cneophytou.com/2007/02/19/motorola-motofone-f3/

In summary:
- You can call people
- You can text people
- It has an alarm
- Its unlocked

They've got them in Perry Barr too.

Absolutely AWESOME phone!

Absolutely AWFUL phone!
#4
worst phone EVER!

They are fine as a way of talking to someone who is too far away to hear you if you shout (simple, long battery life, good sound quality). 8 characters per screen means they aren't so hot if you're into texting.
#6
best phone ever!
#7
Pretty dismal phone - but it is worth £6 ... just.

Useless for anything but talking.
#8
Good for taking to festivals so that it doesn't matter if you lose your phone.

Best phone ever for some and worst phone ever for some. This is a sign of a design genius who has absolutely got the features required by the few who are usually ignored by the other designers. Well done! I am looking for its Version 2 with more functions but still keeping the same features and basic layout.

Since Pounstretcher & Instore are effectively the same company then this deal is the same as the Instore deal of a month ago. That generated a lot of love / hate feelings for this little phone.

I am confused now. Should I buy it......or not??
#12
No it is not 3G or 3D or even 3A - it makes and receives calls and that's what a phone is for, but youngsters hate it because it's not trendy.

There's nothing wrong with the Nokia 3310 - a design classic.

yes i have been able to touch the screen ok, one of the big advantages of this phone which should be a major selling point is the fact it also has a moisture sensitive coating, basically once it detects moisture/liquid it turns itself off,* worth the asking price for this feature alone

*unfortunately my unit wont switch back on, im sure its just a glitch and cpw will sort it out

;-)

Well if you don't like you can get £5.20 back for it from MoPay[co.uk], or £6 in M&S vouchers!

Really great telephone , it is the best in the world for people who need just clear big displays, simple and basic functions and clear sounds . It is way above in leadership design principles for its intended market. I would always remember this phone I bought one for my dad because of these immense design features when he was in hospital in Jan 2008, he was nearly 80 , the phone was so easy to use even he managed it without having ever used a mobile phone, and he made his last call to me on this phone when he was in hospital with his last breaths beckoning me to go to the hospital and I made it to his bedside just 20 minutes too late ....when I arrived he had about 10 nurses and doctors at his bedside to try to revive him from his cadiac arrest, the MRSA overwhelmed him in his last days and he was under sedation   So that was his last call to me on the F3 and I did not made it in time to his bedside to bid goodbye in words...sic ..only his last words to me in his last minutes of his life using the Mototola F3.

Great feature of this telephone too is that even if it picked up MRSA it is easy to wipe it clean with alcohol wipe in hospital as the surfaces are mostly flat and the phone survives the wipe.

Erm, I might be mistakn here, but that is the main purpose of a mobile phone.

iv actually went to a few of these stors. they have no stock and the manager has no idea that the company even sells them

I just went to Instore and staff there told me that this phone is locked to the included Virgin network. Is this the same offer? Can any of the people who bought this phone from instore if this Is really unlocked (I want to use O2)? Is there any way of checking in the store whether it will work with O2 without having the O2 sim card present (haven't bought it yet)? Thanks for any advice.

another major selling point is that it is resistant to alcohol wipe and is easy to clean as all the surfaces are flat. See above comments made by me.

Amazing phone, if you just want to talk and thats it its perfect, great reception and a battery that goes on for ever. (it does text but yeuukkkk plus you get no warning of a text received)
#30
I like my iPhone, but I'm not ditching my Motofone. Got one of these when they came out, the only thing that bugs me is no predictive text, but great call and speakerphone quality. I keep it alongside my old 3310 (as mentioned already, another design classic) for using with all the £5 Virgin sims I've accumulated.

The one I got was came with a Virgin SIM (from CPW), but it isn't locked, takes anything.

Wierd, mine plays a tune, shows the SMS icon and tells you verbally ("new message received") if you have voice help on, maybe you need to change the settings or reset it?

Or do you mean there's no delivery reports?
#32
I'll do it for a fiver plus P&P! :p

Picked up two of these. I've tested it with an orange sim and a t-mobile one. The phone is UNLOCKED.

Great value. Thanks OP

Anyone know how many megapixels the camera on this is (I heard it could record video in HD), and how quick the gps is to pick up a signal.
Also, how big is the hard disk on this model, and is the touch screen VGA or QVGA?
Dave.
#35
Yes, and can everyone post every single bit of information about this phone so that I don't have to google myself.

Also, I don't really want a cheap phone just for making calls, or leaving in the car or drawer as an emergency phone or even "disposable" phone, so can someone let me know about every nit-picky, niggly, non-essential, feature that this phone does not do apart from pressing numbers and talking to someone at the other end?

Thanks

too many things to list but my favourite is the dedicated keys for making a call and ending a call..genius

This phone is very basic but has good reception, battery life and form factor - a good backup or spare phone. The phone is rugged, and the keyboard is dust resistant. The phone was originally designed by Motorola as a low cost phone for the developing countries.

Interestingly, it has a display based on a new technology called e-ink, which consumes very little power (the same technology used in the sony ebook reader prs-505). Infact, the display only uses power when the contents on the screen change. If you pull the battery out - the current content on the screen remains visible indefinitely.

As I said in my OP, it IS UNLOCKED (It comes with a Virgin sim, I have tried Orange and Vodafone and both work). If you want to check the one instore is the same on the bottom of the package mine says it was manufactured in Dec 2006 and has an MPR of Rs. 1750 (whatever that is!). The code on the side is MOT F3 BK VIR PG PSTRETCHER.

Does anyone know if this phone is 3G?

Will buy if I can get the internet on it.

it can record not only in hd, but in full hD 1080P :w00t:
it has a 1tb disk - better than the n95 as it only has 8gb :-D
