Hasn't this tablet been at this price before on HUKD...and also been out for a long time now? From all the reviews I agree it's a good machine but shouldn't the price have dropped a little more? Thanks.

I havnt a clue what you are refering to ... (_;)
Both have their pros and cons, but personally i think the IPAD has more cons than pros, despite my 64gb IPOD been one of my fave devices ever.

Can be upgraded to ICS via either rooting and custom rom, or via updating to the US rom. I doubt the UK will ever get the ICS update offically.

I've just bought one, coming tuesday. I assume you have to root it to get the US rom?

Got one of these at Christmas and paid £320, great bit of kit. Had it rooted within an hour of having it and been runnning ICS since the new year. Granted the screen could be better but apart from that, no problems!

Been this price many times before, although an excellent tablet it is now first generation and is no longer worth this price.

Why though? ... the RRP was £479, not £279 and theres no real competition for it in this price range. Its just stores clearing stock for the (in many ways inferior) Xoom 2. Its not as if the IPAD, Galaxy etc drop massively in price after a year either. Calling it a 1st Gen device, is abit of a misnomer since alot of 'current gen' tablets have the similar or inferior specs. Its not like comparing a Ipad 3 to and Ipad 2. Like i said most people would buy this over an Xoom 2 anyday as it is better spec'd overall. It seems as if the Xoom 2 is a cut price version to lower the systems RRP. Since the Xoom was slated for its high RRP on release.

As far as i understand it no, it doesnt need to be rooted. A good place to look is XDA developers forum for info. I just wanted to root mine so i could OC it.

You will only be able to OC properly if you use a custom kernel, Look at the EOS Rom, I just it on my xoom on "interactive" governor and I limit it to 1.6GHZ per core.

It also comes down to what you're going to be using the tablet for:

Productivity - The 4:3 is the better size, due to being able to being a more natural size (more a4 like)

Movies - 16:10, as you'll get the video making full use of the display

.. ermm, thats what i said. ;) Shard presumably just want to know if he/she could update to ICS via the US rom and avoiding the root method. Although rooting obviously voids your warranty, it is now possible to 'unroot' your xoom back to its original factory state.

You can get sub 200 pound tablets that are much faster, thinner and have an IPS screen. So why anyone would want to pay more for this is beyond me.

Got this at £220 back in January from dixons. Still waiting on the ICS update though. It's due in the 2nd quarter.
Good bit of kit but I can't play all the movies I transferred from my hard drive and that's with different player apps!
Expansion slot is ideal but realistically you still need a laptop/computer to transfer the files onto micro SD.

Try downloading MX Player that should let you play all the movies :-)
