Jump to unread Post a Comment.... the iPad 2 refurbished only being £10 more
I havnt a clue what you are refering to ... (_;)
Both have their pros and cons, but personally i think the IPAD has more cons than pros, despite my 64gb IPOD been one of my fave devices ever.
I've just bought one, coming tuesday. I assume you have to root it to get the US rom?
Why though? ... the RRP was £479, not £279 and theres no real competition for it in this price range. Its just stores clearing stock for the (in many ways inferior) Xoom 2. Its not as if the IPAD, Galaxy etc drop massively in price after a year either. Calling it a 1st Gen device, is abit of a misnomer since alot of 'current gen' tablets have the similar or inferior specs. Its not like comparing a Ipad 3 to and Ipad 2. Like i said most people would buy this over an Xoom 2 anyday as it is better spec'd overall. It seems as if the Xoom 2 is a cut price version to lower the systems RRP. Since the Xoom was slated for its high RRP on release.

As far as i understand it no, it doesnt need to be rooted. A good place to look is XDA developers forum for info. I just wanted to root mine so i could OC it.

You will only be able to OC properly if you use a custom kernel, Look at the EOS Rom, I just it on my xoom on "interactive" governor and I limit it to 1.6GHZ per core.
Productivity - The 4:3 is the better size, due to being able to being a more natural size (more a4 like)
Movies - 16:10, as you'll get the video making full use of the display

.. ermm, thats what i said. ;) Shard presumably just want to know if he/she could update to ICS via the US rom and avoiding the root method. Although rooting obviously voids your warranty, it is now possible to 'unroot' your xoom back to its original factory state.

Good bit of kit but I can't play all the movies I transferred from my hard drive and that's with different player apps!
Expansion slot is ideal but realistically you still need a laptop/computer to transfer the files onto micro SD.

Try downloading MX Player that should let you play all the movies :-)
