Good price for this player, as ebuyer are selling it for £34.99.

However, I've owned the 1GB version of this and it's pretty bad. Worst problem is the screen:

1. There's a black plastic border around the screen, and it's wider on the right than on the left, which makes it look rubbish - they hide this in the photographs by applying clever perspective.

2. The screen update is extremely slow. Most other chinese players of this ilk have better LCDs.

Apart from that, it's a fine player, with all the foibles of that class of player (i.e. clunky interface) and it's very cheap.

Voted hot, on price alone.

i am getting it for my 6yr old in your honest opinion is it worth the £25.00 or money down the drain?
she is probably as tone deaf as me by the way

Will it be just for music or for video as well? If music then you will probably be better with one of the more rugged ones such as this http://www.bigpockets.co.uk/product.php?product=GRADEA077&product_id=&nav=6&next_limit=0&next_price=19.99

They seem more rugged and able to withstand the knocks and drops likely from your average 6 year old.

I see the advert says it uses the AMV format. Did yours come with come with a converter to convert AVIs/MP4s to AMV?

Oh, I'd say that it's definitely worth the money.

However, most 6 year olds wouldn't be able to fill 4GB of space with music, so you could go for something cheaper;

Here's a 2GB version for about £14 delivered:

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.9673

There's one for the same price, but it has an SD slot so you can add more space:

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.11651

This is cute for about £12 and it has a bigger screen:

Basically, most things on dealextreme are decent and there's a few good, cheap ones availble from about £5 no ebuyer [free postage about £49].

Yes, it came with the conversion software. It's easy to use and very fast to convert. There are other freeware versions of it on the internet so you can convert at different screen resolutions etc, just do a google search for avi to amv converter.

I bought a similar one of these a while back. It was the worst buy I ever made! It kept losing all my tracks and the menu navigation was so slow and frustrating. However the worst was the battery which only lasted about 2 weeks.

picked up one of these yesterday and its ****

first problem it worked out of the box no problem with low battery indicator had a mess around for at least 20 mins i then charged it up via usb for about 3 hours then checked it it was 3/4 charged put it back on charge for another hour it then decided it wouldnt work after that it wouldnt power on at all so left it over night still dead boxed it up for return but left it switched on in box had one last go before return switched it off then on and it powered up the battery showed half used(doesnt seem to work on full charge)it then works for 2 tracks and decides its batterys flat and switches off:x

also the volume level on full is not very loud

and lastly there is a humming noise comes from the unit through the headphones when powered up very annoying

i have been using a £10 cheapy from tesco that i have had for a few years and the sound quality and volume and lack of hiss outshines this by miles

unless i had a bad one, anyone got the same problems

Thanks.

Found some useful info here. However one of the links MyMPxPlayer.org has a converter which is reported to have a virus ... so beware!
