Interesting that the Currys deal went mad when the i5 was £699 but In real terms that tablet with the mouse, keyboard, antivirus and case and the warranty was costing £1044 after cash back. True you get accidental damage cover (JL costs extra £110) but this tablet comes with superior i7 processor, much more ram, and larger hard drive. You also get much better customer service.

I know I am fighting a loosing battle on here though.

You're fighting a losing battle because you're wrong.

While this is a great price for this model (£1449 for the tablet alone on MS's site), not everyone needs this spec. I certainly don't - which is why I bought the £699 i5 version. It's a world of difference between the price points for these.

The type cover is only £89 on Amazon right now and has been for weeks. Nobody needs Norton Antivirus when Windows Defender does the job just fine for free and is baked into the OS. The Acme Skinny Sleeve can be had on eBay or Amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00TKDCIIA) for under £10 and that MS mouse is no better than any cheap, generic £10 mouse.

So let's assume you bought the £699 model like I did:

Surface - £699
Type Cover - £89
Sleeve - £10
Mouse - £10
= £808
- 10% cash back of £70
= £738

That's a whopping £561 difference between the i5 and this model and nowhere near the £1044 you quoted. Even the extended warranty was only £169 if you wanted it. Whether a £561 gap is worth the spec (which is still a mobile processor, don't forget), longer John Lewis warranty and service is up to individuals to decide. But please don't make out these two deals were priced similarly - they're not even close.

Don't forget there are also cheaper alternatives to the Type Cover for under £25 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B019TNVVMY) for the truly budget-conscious.
