http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/laptops/276652/msi-cr610-013-16in-laptop

"...While MSI's CR610 Blu-ray drive makes it look like an exciting laptop, we'd prefer a faster processor and better screen. Not sure this comes with Blue ray though...."
#3
seems to be exclusive to argos, this one isn't the blue ray,so can't compare the new price
#4
I thought only eBay DOTD was allowed on here?
#5
Agreed! I got all exited until I realised this is a special model without blu-ray. The tests I've read all say the laptop is quite slow compared to the Intel chip model but value is made up by the blu-ray drive (which this one doesn't have).
I suppose £299 would be a good price for a new model but a refurb? ....... Not voting because I'm not sure.
#6
I bought a couple of Samsungs off argos ebay and they turned out to be new not refurbs, just selling off old stock so was well pleased. These might be new as their are so many:)

looks a good spec for the price so hot from me
#7
Wow its got HMDI support, whatever that is....

Poor processor otherwise this would definately be a good deal with 4GB RAM and Windows 7. Esata out is a nice bonus too at this price...
#8
This one is not blu ray, but they do Have the blu-ray version for £374.99 + 3.99 P&P

#9
Oops sorry about that.
The on posted by the op does not have blu-ray, but argos have it refurbished through the ebay outlet for £374.99 + £3.99P&P on item number 360296938637 Here

This was the best specced laptop I could find for my £300 budget. Have to be 15" or above, run win7, have a dvd drive, have at least 2 GB ram, and a dual core. Hats off to anyone who can beat the spec for that price :p I am surprised that people have mentioned a poor processor, 2ghz dual core? Also (according to the sellers infor its got seperate ram for the HD4200 graphics too.

I have been looking for 48h and this is what I plumped for.
#11
Timbo the indpendant review stated it was a poor processor (Link above)

Also states

It's not the most attractive of laptops either, and although the glossy lid ad thin screen bezel might turn some heads, the plastic strip around the edge of the keyboard panel looks really cheap, and on our review sample it was starting to come away from the case.

There's no doubt MSI has cut corners to fit a Blu-ray drive into a £500 laptop, but if you're not into heavy image or video editing and don't need a lot of processing power, the CR610 is a decent entertainment laptop. That said, if you don't want the Blu-ray drive Dell's 1564 is more powerful and has much better build quality.

Just read this on Hexus;

AMD Tigris Platform

Dont want to fall out ;) over the specs, yes it wont play latest games etc. And yes, its not the blueray version, but £80 extra seems extravigant. Also bearing in mind that some people pay £300+ for a 10" netbook......

If anyone can find a better lappy at £300 ill send this back when it arrives under the distance selling regulations :)

I genuinely though this is a good deal for those on an extremely tight budget.
#13
Dude I am in the market for my son, so I need a lap that handle a few games, the high end hardware attached to the processor is dragging the processor down, not the processor. Hope this helps ya
#14
I'm not sure that there hasn't been an error in the listing.. the catalogue lists an Athlon CPU, but the ebay listing shows it as a Turion. The BR version sports a Turion, but not this one apparently (unless the catalogue version is not the same as this one, of course).
#15
The listing shows as an M300 cpu: AMD CPU Data

And the AMD site mathces as a 2Ghz dual core cpu, but as you say, listed as an athlon.
#16
this looks like a beast of a laptop, and not in a good way, in an fugly way.... i bought the 14inch x410, it does look good, but i'm still unsure whether i'll be returning or not.. unsure of the drivers, and keyboard flex, alot of issues.. maybe this will have similar problems
#17
Lol Gordon, nicely put :)

Keeps getting hotter though!
#18
My sis has given me a budget of 300 to find her a general usage lappy with min 15" screen - seems to fit perfectly, although I haven't a clue about MSI as a manufacturer - what's their reputation like?

This seems a great spec for the price, unless I'm missing something?
#19
My wife has had an MSI for 3.5 years, no real trouble, still going strong. Just found out that they actually warranty them now for 2 years (so the refurb has only 1/2 that). They specialise in higher end (£900+) gaming machines!

Thats what I thought for £300, but many don't seem to agree. :(

Nobody has yet found better for my £300 budget, looked at laptops direct too, but you were talking around £330 minimum, plus £10 postage, for lower spec refurbs, or 10" netbooks.

I reckon my daughter will love it for her 21st :)
#20
nowt wrong with this..
battery life?#good deal everyone...
#21
so does this have a turion or athlon processor!!!!
#22
I suspect after looking at the similar sounding model's specs, that it is Athlon.

Who can be sure? The first to receive one I guess.

Just got off the blower to Argos - it's not a Turion, it's an Athlon. You may well see the description being updated shortly...
#24
Nicely done Josh!

I wish all people selling laptops online would give the full model code too, so we can check the specs out ourselves!
#25
has been at this price for a while

A friend has a blueray version of this and said he can only use 3gb or so of the ram installed

the rest gets unused? or used by the grafix card??

I've found a few videos on youtube which say they are using the HD 4200 and the systems are laptops >

For example >

This one states M300 CPU and HD 4200 >

This MSI is a better deal IMO, although I'min the market for a machine but might hold out for something else - I don't really fancy an Athlon CPU. For those on a budget of 300 quid this is pretty good though!
#34
Is it better than the Samsung E352 though?

Personally, I think the MSI is a better bet, but then you don't state how much you've seen the E352 for...
If it's the one at 380 from Comet I'd say there are a number of better machines out there for the same (or less) money.
#36
yea thats the one i was looking at, dont know much about laptops... just dont want a notebook and want something reliable! Everyone seems to think this MSI is pretty good so I think I'll just go for that?
#37
This is a great priced laptop, I doubt you'll get anywhere close to the same spec for £299. The ATI 4200 gpu is miles better than anything "comparable" in the Intel range.

* windows 7 will make nice use of the dual cores.
#38
Think this may have just come at the right time for me, I know this question may get ripped apart, but will this play World of Warcraft at a good rate? I just need a laptop to play that on and do general stuff on.

Thanks in advance
#39
As more examples from youtube (Compaq laptop, but same cpu and graphics)

Half life 2

Mass Effect

If this laptop can do this, ill be keeping it and giving my daughter mine!!!

I wouldn't pay another £80 for a lesser spec laptop.
