Great find plus Assassin's creed 2 is a very good game- much better than the first one. And i am sure it would look fantastic with this quality card.
#3
Great deal - well found !

Just bought the Gigabyte GTX460 or else I'd have bought this. Great deal.

Mind, I've got mine overclocked easily to 850mhz before changing any voltages, so this one's pretty damn good too.

Dam £180 for a GFX card, this is why i had to give up PC gaming and move to console gaming.

Seems a good price looking at comparible offers for this card so heat added.

Yeah one of the reasons for me too, you can get a xbox360 slim with a game for that price!!

youd be mad to buy a graphics card now with ati range so so close, i can see this version of the 460 going for 150 or less in 2 weeks, watch this space
#8
B?ut would I be right in thinking the ATIs don't do 3D gaming, meaning this price may be unnaffected?
#9
Good price for the hawk. Shame I went for the Gigabyte version already! : ( I'm pretty sure the hawk doesn't come with VRM heatsinks...

Worth noting that overclockers have this deal also: http://overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-099-MS (although need to be active in the forums for free delivery).

I can't believe I'm considering an upgrade from my 5850. I swore to myself that I would not get obsessed with upgrading components. Better start saving and selling :p

So the same as a PC game and a graphics card that will far outperform the console?

Wait, why did he move away from PC gaming again?

A gtx460 is a gtx460, I would never expect a 'top class GTX460' could beat a 470. Plus I doubt if a well built ASUS/Gigabyte/XFX/EVGA can overclock close to 1Ghz as well as this one.

Throw in a further 20 quid you may get a budget 470. Keep expanding the budget you will get a 480, this is going to be endless!

I would say there are far more 40-60in HD TV owners than those who own a Dell 3008. Sit 2 meters away from the telly a lot of game graphic details can be ignored. Games on big screen do feel a lot different from monitor

As in a years time other gamers with be upgrading again, not just GFX card, but RAM , gaming mouse, sound card etc etc etc.

With Console gaming you buy your console and then just games not hardware upgrades every six months and know pretty much everybody is on a level playing field not on different GFX cards etc.

That why i moved away from PC gaming and the fact you can chill out more playing games on a console lying on your sofa or bed.

You don't need to upgrade as often as you're suggesting, come on. The only people that do that are enthusiasts/neckbeards who absolutely must have the latest and greatest. A processor/motherboard/RAM is normally good for *at least* two years, with *possibly* a video card upgrade needed in between.

I've had my Core 2 Duo E8400 CPU for over 2 years now and it still doesn't hold me back in anything apart from a handful of games (and most of them are badly-optimised console ports like GTA 4).

Someone with a Core i5 750 CPU or similar is not going to be encountering a processor bottleneck in games for several years. The hardware tech is generally way ahead of the software at this point.
#16
Hmm, for £30 more you can get the 470 GTX (Palit) from Scan and you get so much more card for your money. Not voting for this reason.
#17
people dont seem to realise, if you buy this card the graphics on the pc will be like 10 x better than consoles, think your forgetting the gpu in the 360 is like 4 years old now and like the same as a £20 old pc graphics card from ebay, i was playing better than xbox graphics on my pc 10 years ago.

For not a lot more you can get a 5850 , which is better than this in mostly everything. Cold, you could get a GTX 460 768 Mb for just over a £110 a month or so ago. Fair enough its not quite as good, but the extra memory in this isnt worth another £70. They may be good in SLI, but not this good.
#19
Would I be able to play bad company 2 on this with a e7400 core2duo (2.8ghz) CPU and get a half decent result with it?

All depends on what resolution you want to play at. I'm getting 40-60 fps in in bad company to with an ATI 5870 at 1680 by 1050 but that is a £300 card. i don't think you will get those kinds of numbers with this card with everything on max let me put it that way.
#21
Bad Company 2 is pretty CPU-intensive so your processor would probably bottleneck a bit in that game. It'd be fine for most games though.

That comparison is a little unfair. 768MB version should be called GTX 455 or something. It comes with 192bit of GDDR5. This one you get 256bit. There are some noticable differences in performance which is far more than just 200MB of memory.

So you can get a
Entry level GTX 460 for £110
Performance GTX 460 for £160
Top GTX 460 for £180
Entry level GTX 470 for £ 210

Personally I would either stick to the mid range or stretch budget for a 470.
#23
The single card performance of this particular model is not fantastic by a long shot. So based on this deal itself, and not on 2 of them , which would be a decent setup. I still say its cold.

People are missing the point with this card! It's not fantastic out of the box but once you overclock the hell out of it and crank the voltage up all while still keeping cool and quiet thanks to the impressive heatsink, that's when you get ur extra 20 quid worth from the card. If you don't believe me then just watch this.

I love a sarcy comment :/! I doubt HTC use NVIDIA gtx 460 graphics card in their phones so it wouldn't make a difference to this deal anyway!

I think there's a bit of a jump logic wise there. Why are you considering what other gamers are experiencing?
If you're looking at this objectively, you're going to get a better quality gaming experience on PC than you will on a console - For the same money. You don't need to upgrade in a year. There's no reason to, you'll still be able to play the games a year later and they'll still look far better on your PC than your console.

But yeah, if new games come out with amazing graphics then some may feel compelled to get the newest GPU to play them. Or new features like DX11 which offers some nice improvements, then there may be a reason to upgrade - but these should be seen as benefits to PC gaming over console gaming. You don't have to spend the money, but if you want the best gaming experience then it's there for you.
There was talk that the consoles may be going for another 4 years without an update! Can you imagine where the PC will be by then?

That's pretty low, I think.

I play BC2 with everything maxed and it runs nicely on a HD5850. That's with a 920 @ 4.2Ghz.

Bear in mind the 400 series cards have physics support and so are better than ATI
