MSI Radeon 6850 Overclocked only £132.40 @ Scan

AMD's latest generation of graphics cards, Not only an amazing price but factory overclocked too!

Mid-range not fast enuogh for ya? Buy 2, for £264 you will have a set-up faster than any single card money can buy (eg £500!!)

It is a pre-order but Scan are usually very good at getting stock in but the price normally goes up when in stock.

Reviews for you non-believers!! http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ATI/Radeon_HD_6850_CrossFire/23.html
Also, bare in mind that is standard stock speed results so you can add another good few percent onto those scores.

As for other cards at or around this price, i have nothing bad to say about them, this MSI card is meant to have a better PCB layout, is much small than standard card and a better, quieter cooler.

But basically any 6850 at or around the £130 mark is a fantastic deal.

Found this review

Basically 6870 performance if it's overclocked. Seems good to me.

Decisions,decisions !

the 5850 is faster than the 6850, the 6870 is ment to be a replacement for the 5770 but is generally faster than the 5850 from the reviews I've seen.

thanks alot dude, the 5850 does seem to edge the 6850 in benchmarks but it is more power efficient requiring a single 6 pin plug.
The MSI 5850 at overclockers is £125.00 with a free copy of assassins creed 2.

This.

You can also get a PowerColor 6850 for £130 from Novatech, which holds its own against the Asus/Saphire models.

Super cheap to put a couple 6850s in xfire, and can pretty much destroy any game. In terms of this deal though (as well as the fact that its out of stock), its cold. You can also get an XFX one with Medal of Honor included free for £145.

Massive and DX11 the 6850 is on par with the Nvidia 460gtx its nothing really special neither is the price pretty hot running aswell i would get the Overclockers MSI 5850 with custom cooler for less and beats this and overclocks like a monster. Voting cold as theres better for less.

I'm tempted by the msi 5850 from ocuk as well as been looking to replace the 3yr+ old 2900pro 1gb card I'm currently using, been looking at the novatech 6870 @ £170 but now thinking about the msi 5850 and oiverclocking it(the 6870 would prob also ovrclock and still be faster than the 5850 but I save £45).

Like scan, Ocuk offer loyal forum members free delivery.
The 6850 is slower than a 5850.
The 6850 uses less power because it isnt as power full as the 5850.
A 5850 will overclock aswell as a 6850.
In crossfire the 6850 manages to only just beat 5850 in a few instances.
The 5850 is cheaper thus a no brainer.

I feel ya, i don't think the 6970 warrants 40 quid extra over the 5850. That MSI 5850 offer will end soon so i must make my mind up. Hopefully we get a few more of these offers before the end of year.
I got 2 X 9600GT in SLi configuration, they've been great and they run everything i throw at them at 1280 X 1024 resolution but i might be getting a 32 LCD soon and will probably need a better GPU.

what I dont understand is why the 6950 is only SLIGHTLY faster than the 6870, when the 6870 is supposed to replace the 5770 and 6950 is replacing the 5850, but the 5850 is MUCH faster than the 5770.

i guess this must be really noisy

nope, it's really quiet (certainly quieter than my psu or cpu fans)

I believe the 6850's are quite good in crossfire, whereas other cards don't work out quite as efficient.

Terrible drivers, sub par tessellation and oodles of micro-stutter. Enjoy being completely outclassed by any modern nvidia card! Considering you can get a decent 460 for the same price, which will not only run cooler, but will also perform better in most games (because suprise suprise, nvidia PAY developers to do so!) I really don't see why you would succumb to what is essentially another AMD rebrand. Cold.

I bought two of these. Have had to RMA sadly.

I best warn folks there is a known issue (see the AMD forums) with the 6850 series on many pcs (I'm not claiming all, but I have experienced this and so returned - as have many others judging by the forums), where the cards require their memory frequency dropping down 100mhz (to 1000mhz in the case of these cards due to their overclock) as otherwise they suffer random black screens of death.

Also please be advised that these are not suitable for Crossfirex if you only have two pci-e slots on your motherboard (as per most matx boards) - the fan is a double slot design and there will be insufficient air flow should you place them next to them.

Sorry to be a party pooper - I am sure the cards are excellent for some, and they are brilliant value for money - but I don't want anyone else to make the same mistakes I made!
