You can't buy netbooks with anything other than XP or W7 Starter, MS won't liscence any other version to be sold on netbooks. You need to move up to CULV notebooks to get proper windows or, like you say stump the cash for an upgrade or use more dodgy means:thumbsup:

I bought one of these off eBay for £160 (second hand - as new).
They are a cracking bit of kit.
I wiped it clean and installed Windows 7 Ultimate along with my usual choice of software.

It was supposed to be for my young daughter so that she wouldn't mess up my main computers but I find myself on it more than her. I even use it more than my desktop and laptop.

The performance wasn't blistering so I upgraded the ram to 2GB (£27 from eBay) and also bought a matching blue wireless mini mouse for £7 from eBay as well. The ram made a noticeable difference.

The battery lasts between 2 - 3hrs and I think it is a 3 cell version. I'm going to hold off upgrading that for the time being.

Be aware that there is no Bluetooth on the Carphone Warehouse model and the hard drive is 160Gb. I mention this as when I researched the U135 I found that it also came with Bluetooth and a 250Gb HDD in some markets.

Overall I am VERY pleased with the quality and useability of this netbook. and it is a cool colour of blue with a pattern effect on the lid and touchpad. I've worked in the PC and electronics retail sector for many years so I like to think that I know my stuff.

Is it worth £199?
DEFINTIELY!

Heat from me.

I forgot to mention that you can't (as far as I have researched) hackintosh this version of the Atom processor.
But I'm a Windows man through and through anyway so that's no skin off my nose.
The chiclet keyboard has the flat sqaure keys just as you would find on a cool looking Mac keyboard so you can get a little closer to owning a Macbook for less.

If you do want to spend the extra money for a Windows 7 upgrade then this can get a bit expensive.
But as Adidas Addict has mentioned there are other ways :whistling: (not that I am conding this of course).

I just got one yesterday, im using it now. It really is a superb piece of kit, and probably the best deal out there at the minute for a high street bought quality branded pinetrail. Battery life is probably 3 to the 3.5 hours but no big deal just get a new battery. And what is with all this hatred for w7 starter? its perfecty fine and has all the features I would use even on my PC that has ultimate I dont use any other features apart from media player, note pad and firefox. Seriously stop all this w7 starter is rubbish stuff, there is nothing wrong with it, and if it bothers you that much its not very difficult to change OS for free.

Highly reccomend this netbook

Sounds good. I need a new laptop/netbook for uni, but really don't want to shell out. This seems like a good deal. I'm not bothered about Windows 7 Starter. I don't even use Windows anyway. I'll just install Ubuntu on it. Much more reliable.
