I think this is the best of the current netbooks. Now that it has the 6-cell battery and 160GB HDD there is really nothing to find fault with, and it has 2-year warranty.

Or for £10 less, you can get an Advent 4213 from Comet.

It is basically an upgraded Wind with a 3g simcard modem built in.

And you get an easy 4 hours out of the battery life.

So i am voting cold. Sorry.

I see your point, but I just couldn't have advent branding on something I take out in public. I know its pathetic and shallow, but hey at least I admit it :whistling:

Plus on a more sensible note, the extra years warranty is easily worth the tenner.

Cold.
same price as a samsung nc10
#6
Why does that make this a cold deal since both are very similar in spec why would they not be similar in price?

the advent 4213 is nothing like the wind, it is a ECS G10L which does get very good reviews when you compare it to the wind clones, also advents are a DSG brand (dixons, currys and PC world) so your unlikely to find one in comet but i will assume that was just a typo.

Quite right. AVOID the 4213.

Very good netbook. I've heard nothing but good reviews.

Can you bang an extra gig of RAM in? (I'm sure this question would have got asked later on).

MSI Wind is perfect to install OS X for a Hackintosh :)

Great for people that don't want to pay Macbook prices!

Cold.
same price as a samsung nc10

According to today's very favourable review in The Register, the Advent 4213 (Wind) looks roughly comparable to the NC10 in performance terms. What impresses me is the vastly better battery life.
#12
NC10 appears to be the best - was on here for about the same price a couple of days ago.

I bought this netbook two weeks ago from saveonlaptops.com for £297.99 so this price is cheaper i cant fault the netbook i opted for this over the sammy as the msi has built in wireless "n" a 6 cell battery and a 2 year warranty im gonna stick another 1gb of ram in mine bit later too msi said it wont void the warranty and i have to ring themm and they will send me another seal for the lower case. The webcam is very good i get between 4.30-5.00 hours on full battery too the led screen is vey good too also you can overclock the netbook with msi new bios to get about 15% more performance.

Samsung NC10 wipes the floor with this notebook.

Totally pointless comment without explaining why ?
#18
Its easy why fool! The OS on the Samsung is slightly different, if you go into Control Panel and then Cleaning Options, look for the Wipe Floor tick box and then click ok, out comes a MSI Wind U100 and it wipes the floor.

Some people havent got a clue when it comes to technology have they!

still prefer the NC10 got mine for £270 so am pretty pleased

First post so take it easy but,

This spec U100 makes it easily comparable to the NC10. They are like for like spec wise but there's an ace up the U100's sleeve, it has (with the latest bios) single button overclocking up to 2.0Ghz.. which in atom land is a big kick up the backside when it comes to dealing with more demanding work.

It is also probably the coolest and quietest running netbook out there.

The hard drive in my 80GB model is a western digital scorpio (big plus for me).

It is probably the most simple to upgrade as well (but that does mess up the warranty).

Personally, I think it looks better when it is in black as well :)

Agree with you on all counts there. I particularly agree on the ease of upgrading. I am partially sighted and managed it without too much bother.

I'm not sure about the voiding of warranty part though - don't most netbook makers allow you to do this nowadays without voiding the warranty?

How? Why? Finish what you were saying please.

Although it has the What Laptop editors choice, in the overall ratings, the MSI wind was rated as silver, and the NC10 rated as gold, with the NC10 having a longer battery life on their bench test.

The two reviews can be seen here.

these are superb laptops, I have the rebadged Medion E1210(£250 Aldi) and it runs all my music programs (Sonar, TraktorDJ, NI Guitar Rig) without any problems and also Vice City, ProEvo6, Unreal2004 run very well indeed.... these are definatley more than a 'netbook' which is such an understatement to many of these little laptops without cd/dvd drives on the market today.
#25
Very good price, I have the Advent 4211 (MSI Wind U100 without Wireless N and a 80GB HD + 3 cell battery) and I have ended up upgrading it. Very easy to change the HD, wireless card and upgrade the ram to 2gb. I love it to bits, and with the MSI Wind you can overclock it under warranty! Can't do that with the NC10.
#26
The build quality between this and the Samsung NC10 is incomparable, did I mention the better battery life (4h40m vs. 6h45m), better display, miles better keyboard, better design, better preloaded software, bloated vista vs XP SP3, also you can't really compare a brand like Samsung to MSI, not that MSI is any bad. All of this is from experience as I have had both netbooks and decided to stick with the NC10 after upgrading it to 2GB RAM.
#27
can't belive how defensive people get about netbooks its a good price and a decent machine as is the NC10 its all down to personal preferrence

Your as much an idiot as the 1st guy .....still no explanation or reason why ??

I'd say there isn't much between the two.

I'd still go for the U100 (or even the Advent 4211) for the right price !
#29
I've had the Advent 4211 for a few months now and its fantastic. Ive upgraded the RAM using a YouTube video file in 5 mins to 2GB. I did a similar exercise to upgrade the hard disk to 320GB and with a 6-cell the battery lasts around 4-5 hours.

If I were to buy a new netbook now - I would be happy with both this offer - or the Samsung NC10. I think they are both so similar its almost down to preferences and small trade offs

This is a hot deak for a MSI Wind with 6-cell and 160GB HD

I was being sarky about the wipe the floor comment Meko. I agree with you, just saying that something is rubbish without qualifying it is pointless. :)
