I've been looking around for AGES looking for my "perfect" netbook.
Key factors being an N280 CPU or higher, Wireless-N, Bluetooth built in, 6-cell battery from the go, 1.3MP webcam, card reader supporting MS as well as SD, easily Hackintosh-able... I did want a higher resolution screen, but seems that these only come in 11" screens and above...

Anyway, usual Netbook specs as you know:

10.1" TFT Display
*** Intel ATOM n280 1.66GHz ***
160GB Hard Drive
Microsoft Windows XP
1GB DDR2 Memory
*** 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and 10/100 RJ45 Fast Ethernet ***
Built in SD card reader
3 x USB 2.0 ports
Headphone/Microphone jack
Integrated 1.3MP webcam
External display (VGA) port
*** 6 Cell Battery ***
White Casing

ONLINE only
Also available in Black

Possibly. The Maplin ones are categorically listed as shipping with a 6 cell battery for 7+ hours of runtime. Kikatek don't say how big the battery in theirs is.

doesn't look like this one is draft N either...probably not the same one (shame)

You can get a spare 6-cell battery for £30. Then you have a combined life of 9 hrs.

(I'm with Win XP on my Desktop but I must say Windows 7 on my MSI netbook looks and works great. I've put W7 Ultimate on, not W7 Starter).
#6
Now £199.99
Even better!
#7
And hackintoshable if that matters to you

!!! Just saw it - thanks.
I've updated post.

N.B, you need to add something to make it up to £200+ for the £15 voucher to work e.g. a 14p High Temperature Radial Electrolytic Capacitors

And don't forget Quidco/Topcashback etc (supposedly 2.5% if you use a voucher code, but mines tracking at the 6% rate at the moment - about £11).

You wont get 7 hours from a 6 cell btw :)

my 3 cell gets 2hrs max with any kind of use. so im guessing a 6 cell will max at about 4 hours of use. Maybe 7 if you simply turn it on and leave the thing alone LOL

I get about 8 hours on my asus 1005ha which is 6-cell.
That is pure browsing and some word processing too.

If I want music, then it knocks about 2.5 hours off that.
#14
so is this worth a buy then? between 1 and 5?
#15
seems like a good price for a hackintosh
#16
This doesnt have bluetooth built in?

I'm wondering if the number amp hours is the key here. My original U130 came with only 2200mAH. This also gives me only about 2 hours of work. Looking on ebay you seem to be able to get 4800, 5200 and 7800 versions. Curiously, there doesn't seem to be much difference in price.

Any battery experts care to comment?

That would be against Distance Selling Regs. You get 7 days to change your mind on all non-personalised, non-face to face transactions.

They cant cancel it on their system, but just refuse delivery.

Yeah DSR would allow you to send it back, you would just have to pay for postage etc... if you took it from the courier.

This is my favourite netbook and I bought one last year.

With the 6 cell I think typical life is 4-4.5 hours as opposed to 2-2.15 on the 3 cell. Battery life is this netbooks only weakness really, obvious quite a major one if you want it for long periods during the day. The plus is obviously the batteries for these things are very cheap, so you could always get another 6 cell.

Obviously a good price and always has been imo. It has single button overclocking (upto 2.0GHz) if it is the same as my older one and I believe it has a "green mode" that might offer underclocking but I've never used that.

Great screen, keyboard and sound (through speakers).

Has it listed for £124.74! Out of stock though, not expecting any more.

I just bought one of these, which might have had the 4 cell battery not the 6 here, for £149 in the Argos clearance section of eBay. These are fantastic machines

You'll get a cheap chinese 6 or 9 cell off ebay for that money. Although, all bar one that I've bought in the past have had very poor quality cells that typically only last a few months. I took the plunge and bought one for my u100, initial impressions were good. One month later and I've already lost around 20% of its total capacity, another couple of months and I suspect it'll go in the bin.

Maybe I'm just unlucky with batteries, but personally I'm only buying genuine from now on.

I hackintoshed mine and got about 4.5 hours on a full charge when new, dimmed screen and wifi on. More or less only surfing. You would probably get nearer 5hrs on Windows with the battery saving voodoo magic it has.

This was on a 4400mAh battery. Some have 5200mAh, so should get about another 30mins extra or so.
#27
I got 2 u100's for xmas and they get used every single day with out fail.

My desktop is virtually not used now.
#28
A Atom 470/480 is better, what speed is the hard drive? 7200 is much better and gives almost the same bat life.

win.7 starter is better than xp, if u know how to use a pc.
#30
Minor issue I'm having ordering this, I've registered for the newsletter but when I go to the checkout its showing the voucher as '£12 off orders over £150' not '£15 off orders over £200'. Am I missing something or have they altered the voucher? I know its only £3 difference but every little...and all that.
#31
add something else to the cart to push it over £200 if you havn't already? :)
#32
Why not go for the u135 from carphone warehouse at £199

I had done and it still wasn't presenting me with the '£15 off £200' voucher. Bought it with the lesser '£12 of £150' voucher now anyway.

does that mean yours has arrived? If so how long until you got the dispatched email? I got the printed for picking email, but no dispatched (but then in an email from CS re:change of delivery they said they cant cause it's been dispatched)
#37
The u135 on the CPW page shows the battery time at "180 minutes", which would lead me to beleive that the U135 at carphonewarehouse is a 3 cell
#38
cheers op looking into this for a trip to the us of a
or would i be better waiting to buy one there ? mmm

for reference the link in the op also goes to rechargeable batteries not the item in question
#39
vouchers available to me as new registration are:
£12.00 off orders over £150.00
£20.00 off orders over £250.00
£3.00 off orders over £30.00
£4.00 off orders over £50.00
£6.00 off orders over £80.00

so looks like they have changed the limits
6% quidco still though without the code 2.5% for sales with the voucher code = so vouchers are the better option incase anyone was wondering and rubbish at maths
