Bought one on Saturday and was delivered yesterday.

ALSO IN THEIR CLEARANCE STORE IN WHITE AND PINK FOR A TENNER MORE...

Absolutely great machine and very quick, upgraded the RAM to 2GB for £10 from ebay.

It already has 1GB of RAM on board that cannot be removed so you just need to add another 1GB. To do this you do need to take the whole bottom of the machine which is easy enough if you take your time...

The memory you need is: 1GB DDR2 PC2-5300 667Mhz Laptop Memory.

I particularly like the non glare screen for outside use or under bright lights.

Good machine, good spec and a great price. I have the Wind U100 and it is brilliant. This is a better spec too
#2
hmmm 4hours = high estimate for 3cell or down to earth for 6?

if this is hackintoshable I might find myself a bit sad for buying the u100 :(

just have to tell my self this is the smaller battery and a refurb for only £30 less.. :P :)

edit: actually pine tails arn't hackintoshable - phew!
#3
This is not hackintoshable - that is why I went for the U100!
#4
As far as the battery goes I would say that under constant use you will probably get around 2 - 2.5 hours, well that's what I get and that's good enough for me but you can get battery upgrades on eBay.

hackintoshing - there was a huge long thread on it last month http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/665005/msi-wind-u100-10in-mini-laptop-refu

Loads of people contributed to the thread and it is a long read but all you need is in there.

yeah you can't hackintosh the U130, yet.....

might as well post my simple method of dual-booting Win7 & Snow Leopard which helped noobs like myself:

1) make sure you have Win7 and SnowyWindOSX on disk (http://dalton63841.webs.com/)
2) insert SnowyWindOSX into your dvd-drive (I got a 360 HD drive from ebay for £10) and open 'Disk Utility'
3) create 2 partitions and format. the 1st partition will be FAT (Win7) and the 2nd partiton is Journaled (OSX)
4) once completed, quit the installer and reboot. install Win7 onto your FAT partition (which windows will tell you to format to NTFS).
5) once that has completed, restart and install SnowyWindOSX.
6) Done!

also the cheapest ram on the internet is: http://www.samsunglaptop.co.uk/products.php?cat=26

says pre-order but mine came within 2 days and works perfectly!

I just searched ebay and a guy had it for exactly £10 with free delivery, it was Kingston RAM which is as good as any other.

Make sure it's SODIMM - Laptop Memory...

Search for the following...

1GB DDR2 PC2-5300 667Mhz Laptop Memory

There is a guy on there selling Truedata RAM for £10.99 plus £1.99 delivery.

I missed buying off him the last time but he seems to have 10 left at the moment.

Some info here on upgrade process, although I'm sure someone will have it on youtube, you need to be reasonably careful, I took my time and managed to comlete the upgrade without leaving any scrapes or scratches...

Already own this laptop, but thanks for the info on the Ram. Itunes uses a lot on this laptop, sometimes taking Ram to 90% used. Got the micron 1GB pc2-5300 667mhz ram for £13.49 off ebay. Hope it's as easy to install as the tutorials show.

My experience dealing with Argos outlet on ebay. Bought msi black netbook sold "As new" - I ordered black - they sent a pink one clearly been heavily used, tatty box incomplete.

Took over 3 weeks and numerous phone calls and emails to get the replacement.

What I then received was clearly an unrefurbished customer return from an Argos store. (Return label on box) according to return label it had been used for 6 months and returned as faulty. Filthy and heavily used, smelt of cig smoke, keys, track pad badly worn, missing one of the rubber feet on the bottom, the psu supplied was for a toshiba netbook not msi netbook. Incomplete, packaging tatty and damaged etc etc etc.

Then took another 3 weeks or so to get a refund, numerous emails and phone calls to ebay, paypal and ebay argos outlet contractor. Ebay outlet promised a refund, they didnt, in the end ebay had to refund the money to me.

So in conclusion some of the prices can be attractive but dont expect any sort of customer support, if something goes wrong and you have to return it for a replacement or refund look at my experience. Based on their feedback this is not unusual especially with computers and electrical items.

Buyer beware.

I used my nails to separate the base from the rest of the netbook, anything else might damage the edge, that probably won't matter to most but I'm a bit fussy that way.

Well I went through all their feedback for three months and searched the U130 and only found two unhappy customers, everyone else seemed to get an 'as new' product like myself.

Got mine in white. In original box, when i checked contents, everything was brand new(Only box was opened). Purchased 3 weeks ago with the 10% off ebay code so cost me £139 delivered!
My cousin purchased u100. Arrived with damaged screen. Replaced with higher spec u130(after 4 days) which was brand new!
#17
Battery life is approx 2 1/2 to 3 hours depending on what you use.
#18
What kinda performance does this offer over the U100 plus?
Also read online that with the U100 when you upgrade the RAM it voids the warranty unless you contact MSI first. Not sure if this is the same with the U130.
#19
If you check back on the u100 thread half the people got the wrong colour and or werent happy with what they received. People cant be bothered leaving negative feedback on ebay no idea why. If you look at peoples returns experience it was taking others weeks to sort as well.

Personally I wouldnt buy anything from them again if you put a gun to my head ! Most of the negative feedback they do receive is for pcs, laptop or electricals.

Its complete pot luck you could get a new one or you could get an untested unrefurb customer return like I and many others got on the other thread - complete pot luck what you are getting. Neither of the ones I received had been checked as you should be able to tell.

The returns / refund procedure is a complete nightmare, even after going on 2 months they still hadnt sorted, I had to get my money back off ebay in the end. People should be aware what they might receive and problems getting a refund or replacement / repair down the line.
#20
Good price but Argos are a bunch of idiots. I ordred one of these back when they were £189 and the idiots sent me a U100. Took weeks to get my money back even though they collected the laptop. Bunch of clowns, I wouldnt order a cucumber off them as they'd end up sending you a radish.

I am on my third U130.

Argos Ebay Clearance use a company called D&J Henry based in Coventry.

The first one had the blank key by the cursors missing and two deep scratches on the lid.

The second one had a fault with the wireless card.

And the third one came without a battery yesterday, I received the battery today.

It seems that D&J Henry have no quality assurance system.

When I had problems with the first one I rang Argos Clearance they told me that they only sell A1 pristine goods.

Ordered a white one a few weeks ago when ebay sent through a 10% voucher for me. It was delivered within 2 days, and in absolutely mint condition. Original box, with all accessories (still in plastic wrapping) and all plastic protectors still on the keyboard and screen.

You can get around 3 1/2 hours with the MSI eco mode, a bit more with screen brightness set at the minimum and wireless off.

how easy is the ram upgrade? also more details on the dvd driveplease? was looking at getting the £35 samsung one posted somewhere on here

I am very pleased with my u130 from the same place at same price. Even took it abroad on hols with me and it easily picks up hotspot signal from airports anywhere.

I stuck with the 1gb ram because i will have to damage the warranty sticker to open the bottom.

1gb is a bit of a struggle for MSIE but Opera works fine. Upgraded to Win7 home premium without a hitch in order to print over a wireless network,

I could have done with a 9 cell battery (7 hrs) when in the plane watching divx movies (which play perfectly, btw!) but I have heard bad things about those £30 ones being sold from China on ebay. does anyone have any experience with these?

Overall it does a decent job with most ordinary tasks, including photo editing. Just dont expect to play modern 3d games on it. Quake 1 should be ok though!

Apparently as long as you don't do any damage you will not void the warranty.

In Europe warranty is NOT dependant on a sticker - different in the USA.

ram is super easy to upgrade, just follow youtube videos and maybe http://insanelywind.com/wiki/
I bought the ram from http://www.samsunglaptop.co.uk/products.php?cat=26 and it works great. just got to be a bit forceful when you insert it.

don't bother spending loads on an expensive external dvd drive, just go on ebay and type in "360 HD Drive", just plug it in via usb and select it when you boot up.
#33
Quick update...

I recommend that you go to the MSI website and install the latest drivers for the wireless card as this sorted out some issues that I had yesterday evening.

Also install the latest synaptic touch-pad drivers , also from the MSI website which let you scroll vertically and horizontally using the pad, there are other settings but the scrolling makes this machine even better to use.
#34
What is the difference between U100 and U130? apart from being able to hack it.

is it just the operating system?

Had mine a few months now. It arrived with no sign of any use at all - it even smelled new! Stuck 1gb RAM in for under a tenner from the site recommended on here. Updated touchpad drivers - Synaptics on this one so you can actually scroll properly. Windows 7 plays very nicely with my main PC via Wifi. I use my phone as my own little portable wifi hotspot and I am totally delighted.

Only downside is the limited battery life on the supplied 2200mAh. Now trying to find out if anyone has any experience of the 72000 mAh ones being sold from China for £30. I'm assuming these will extend life to 7 hours but not sure about how long they will last.

That and the processor I believe.

I got an NC10 (Samsung) from thebigdiscountstore; was advised to try Argos Clearance but wouldn't want to risk it after reading here!

I read that buying unbranded RAM is a bad idea (don't shoot me, as I have no idea). I bought branded RAM (Hynix) for just over £20 on ebay, upgrading to 2GB myself :)

I got one white u130 from argos clearence sometime ago, it was immaculate not a scratch, beautiful machine. But maybe i was unlucky as it kept crashing and blue screening on me. So I sent it for repair and I paid for an extra 1gb RAM fitted by them so as not to void the warranty.
It came back still crashing (problem with the wireless adaptor i believe, popular topic on the msi forum).
I returned the machine again and i got a full and prompt refund including postage and the extra RAM, so i think argos have been very fair to me and i would buy again from them. Both times DHL turned within two hours of my phone call to collect the netbook at their expenses. Argos Clearence Outlet have subcontracted a different company to take care of all their computers warranties, and this company i find very professional or maybe i was lucky. In fact they are MSI UK from what i have understood.
Now i am stuck and i don't know what netbook to get..
