for an extra £14.99. you can upgrade this to Windows 7, according to argos site. Hope it is not a pricing error as upgrade on its own is sold for £81.00
#2
oh no! that is windows 7 to premium upgrade
#3
my 3 kids have one of these each great little netbooks

Most reviews for the U135 state it comes with Win7 (Starter) and a 6-cell battery.
This Argos deal doesn't mention the battery but states Windows XP.

I have a U130 which is great but the biggest issue is the 3-cell battery is useless. My dad would like to buy it from me leaving me free to 'upgrade' to this deal. It would only be an upgrade to me if it had Win7 and a 6-cell.

Anyone have more details?

I am on the equivalent now(apparently it is the same with a different sticker). Battery life is not great ( about 3 hours at the moment) but it is a good little computer. Great for teens or for a portable computer. Thumbs up from me. Look after the lead for charging as they break easily and it was really hard finding a "proper" replacement.

For an extra £20 you can get it here http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/MSI_Wind_U130_1042629.html
It comes with a 3 cell and free 6 cell battery, plus has windows 7 starter instead of XP. Someone may prefer this, although I don't know how good windows 7 starter is.

Windows 7 starter is rubbish.
Ive got the u130, came with windows 7 starter, i upgraded it to premium, added a 1gb of extra ram, 9 cell battery.
Now its even better, cant fault it
#8
mmm not sure, I've seen netbooks with Windows 7 premium, 2gb and ion chip for another £30-£40...

Just in case people dont know. With Windows 7 Starter you are limited to 1GB of RAM so its not a good idea if you plan to upgrade it to 2GB, best to stick with XP in that case.

That's not correct. You might be getting confused with Microsoft limits on hardware sellers, but this can be upgraded to 2GB and Win 7 starter will see and use it fine. Cheers.

I got the u230 a month ago and pretty good, does lag a bit but overall good, went for the u230 because of the 12.1 screen.

OK - I just called Argos technical support
This model is definitely the XP home model (same MSI netbook with W7 starter is £229 on Argos site under 508/3912)
Then special offer to include the upgrade is an error as it will not work to upgrade from XP to W7.
Also, they confirmed this is the 3 cell battery model (pants battery life for a netbook)

So, all-in-all, this is not a bargain at all. Shame really

Bought from this seller http://****.co.uk/laptop-powerup/(_;)

Edit: Damn Ebay links the sellers name is laptop-powerup the part numbers for the battery are BTY-S11 BTY-S12 they don't mention the u130 but they work fine!

Item number - 170587657757

What's wrong with windows 7 starter? It's alright on a little netbook in't it?
#19
Nice and light, but:
- no mention of battery capacity or life time - could be very short
- no gigabit ethernet
- no eSata
- no USB3
- no Windows 7 (although the starter version is not necessarily a massive improvement either)
- little RAM
and since we have seen better prices, I would wait for the next offer.

I have this netbook, its perfect for what i want. I get 5 hours battery life out of mine when not on charge. I thought that was pretty good!!
#21
Yep agree with JaRocks28 regarding battery life, think its pretty good.
Bought this last year and its a brilliant little netbook
#22
What, no usb3, no e-sata, no docking station, no optical drive, no bundled MSO?

Get real guys, this is a good deal for some, but it isn't a £400+ laptop. Great deal for the person who wants a bit of armchair browsing + the odd game of solitare + similar!

It isn't a £400 laptop, I like many people don't need usb3, e-sata, docking station or an optical drive so why pay extra?

£400+ laptops are still terrible, I shall not mention what I payed for mine.
#25
I got this netbook for my daughter last week for £199.99,and it is definately windows XP.At the time I did buy the windows 7 home premium upgrade offer with it for £14.99 and it wasn't until I got it home that I realised that it wasn't going to work .I put it on ebay the same afternoon for £39.99 and it sold within half an hour,so made a £25.00 profit.

Exactly my point - I was astounded at the mention of usb3, eSATA, etc. (whether it was joking or not).
#29
I have this exact model, I bought it just before xmas and can confirm for a fact that it comes with a 6 CELL BATTERY, not 3 cell. It's the U130 model that has a 3 cell battery and that is the difference between the 2 models.
It's a good little netbook if a little slow but I think that might be down to my security software. Other than that I have no complaints apart from the sound which is absolutely terrible.

I just got mine and I can also confirm the battery is 6 cell, but there is no bluetooth.

Thanks OP

I purchased this yesterday for my 10-y.o. son. It most definitely comes with XP and a 6 cell battery. I purchased the Windows upgrade and put it directly on eBay, so I am expecting this to cost me a net of £150. They withdrew the upgrade deal from most colours, but not the white.
