Generally, what are the Argos outlet refurbs like?. Are they better than the currys outlet refurbs.
#2
I'll let you know when it arrives :D

I'm hoping that they are unsold stock.

I have one about 6 months ago. Looked brand new. no problems with it at all.
#5
Seems like luck of the draw....

The current listing on the advert doesn't specify though.

I have 9 of these at home, I managed to re-wire them into a 42 inch digital clock...voted cold.

Yep, luck of the draw.
I purchased one of these a few weeks ago. Looked brand new, and no problems as such . But I would advise paying a little more and getting something a little better unless all you want to do is web surf. There are better netbooks out there for doing things like playing movies and watching iPlayer. And the sound on the MSi is truly awful! The Acer D260 from the same outlet is a much better netbook but with a little less battery power. Has XP, too if that is what you are looking for.

What I don't understand is if these are good, then why the hell are there literally thousands that have needed to be refurbished?
Offers like this have been on here before, and whilst at first glance look like a good buy, I do find myself wondering how long it would be before I have to return it. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but it's never right that so many should need refurbing? Maybe it's a faulty part in them? Can anyone shed any light on why?

May be wrong on this but my understanding is that MS no longer permit new machines to be sold with the OEM XP installed (they made an exception for a couple of years for netbooks since Vista wasn't a sensible option but now that has expired which is why netbooks now get win7 starter) so it may be that if retailers have outstanding stocks then it maybe the simpler to sell them on as refurbs than get XP replaced with win7starter

I very much doubt that is why, look at how many have been in poor condition, bits missing etc in the various posts. From what I read these have at some point been used.

Bought 2 of these in the last couple of months and have to say they both look new,not a mark on either. One had to have a new battery but they replaced that straight away and no problems since.

i bought one for 129.99 a few weeks back. appeared brand new and have used it every day since with no issues. 12 month warranty so risk free. no brainer purchase if you want basic net use etc. i bought a dvd usb drive for fifteen quid off amazon to go with it. tidy

I'd be interested in the input from any Argos employees?

I suspect that they are not refurbs at all but just overstock and returns. I can't see how the cost of any meaningful refurb is going to be worthwhile.

I wonder if Argos just buys shedloads to hit a price point and then discounts them when they are end of line?

Well, mine has arrived and is brand new old stock - ie manufacture date was lat year but it certainly seems to be 'new'.

Interestingly the msi web site disclaims support for machines bought through Argos. This just confirms my view that Argos have done a deal on old stock.

Got this this morning and I have to say although its described as Refurbished I would honestly say this is brand new ... no marks, Installed Windows from scratch, had to remove some crap from it but that didn't take long.
