It's a cheap chain and a cheap lock.

Expensive price for something so cheap.

I'd like to thank people who use this kind of equipment, it makes your bike look much more attractive to thieves than mine.

My local police campaign to use only d locks. Is this any good compared to one?

I'd suggest using this in conjunction with a d-lock. even if it just slows the b*st&%ds down

Definitely use in conjunction with a D-lock. In all honesty, this provides nothing more than a deterrent--quickly clipped at the link by the padlock. But combined with a D-lock, it'll likely make scumbags consider nicking someone else's bike first...

And it's better than a cable lock. All of which are so hopelessly weak that they should be banned.

Don't Sports Direct own the muddy fox name? So they can put the name on anything they want.

another good kind human on this forum...... people show some love, yup its a cheap lock, as a tip i put aside 20% of my bike budget on security both on the road and when it is at home.... this is OK for your cheepo bike but if the bike is your pride and joy i would spend that bit extra..... hugs to you all. 8)

Buy a lock that reflects the inconvenience of losing your bike / value to you of your bike.

I bought this at xmas, anyone who is going to use it as a push bike lock good luck to you. It weighs approx 1.8kgs its extreamly good value for money. A similar chain anywhere else would be tripple the price. The lock its self is so awsome I bought another one just for the lock, but in my opinion its a bit heavy to be lugging around as a bike lock? Oh I also bought the muddy fox gift set - lights- waste of time- lock - broke in 3 months- although the gel gloves were good quality. Pump looked and worked like something from poundland. Hope this helps someone :)

tbh sold secure and thatcham ratings about as useful as a paper chain
these motorbike chains that had a rating of 5 mins were cut in a few secs

Agreed, but if this lock can't even achieve a SS rating then it must be pretty bad!

If someone really wants your bike they can get any lock off. It's all about making it inconvenient for them so they think twice. I got mine for un £10 and it looks identicle to this. It weighs a ton and is extremely sturdy but using an industrial tool it will come off but won't most items?

There are two types of thieves; opportunists and more determined, professional thieves.

A fairly respectable D-Lock used properly through the rear wheel (with a secondary D-lock or cable to prevent your front wheel going missing) will deter opportunist thieves.

There is nothing you can do to stop a determined thief. Even the most expensive chains last only a few seconds (skip to 6:30 in this video) when put up against a pair of bolt cutters.

A chain lock like this one is overkill for deterring opportunist thieves, and will do nothing to stop determined thieves. In other words, lugging the thing round with you is a total waste of time.

a key point of any chain is to ensure it doesn't/won't reach the ground where someone with a hammer and chisel can't wack at it.

A properly used d-lock is better than a chain, but still very hard to stop a pro with heavy duty bolt croppers. The idea is to fill the d-lock with the frame and wheel of your bike so there is no room for them to get any tools into it and no space for leverage, but as the video oxon posted above shows, it's not easy.

    All this talk of D-locks......

I had a D-lock on my bike, I locked it up at the train station, came back later and the bike and lock were nowhere to be seen

The police told me that thieves can remove a D-lock in seconds using a car jack, they just put it inside the lock frame, give it a few turns and it pops the D-lock open

For this reason I would not recommend a D-lock
